Love Ghost World. Eightball in general one of my favorite comics.
Mizuki’s Hitler and volume 4 of Liu and Takeda’s Monstress
The Hitler book is A LOT, mostly chosen b/c I’m interested in Mizuki and it was on the shelf. Maybe more on that later if anyones interested.
Looking foward to diving into the new Monstress !!!
This feels redundant b/c I’m always heaping praise on Monstress, but vol 4 is really good! Not as much action in these issues but major lore dumps.
Besides generally keeping up with the comics I haven’t been paying attention to the Walking Dead franchise at all. When I saw the latest two trade paperbacks in library, I picked them up and honestly am emotionally bowled over.
The series has ended? Complete surprise to me. Last time I was paying attention, the concept was a series that never really ended. Rick dies? Killed by the equivalent of Geoffrey from Game of Thrones?
But anyway, a very satisfying ending, and like I said, brought out some serious emotions in me: the time skip stuff, Carl sitting in a rocking chair and reading the story of Rick to his daughter, very moving, and given the weight of this series and everything the characters have gone through, feels like one of the most uniquely earned endings I’ve ever read.
Finished the tenth, and final, omnibus edition of Blade of the Immortal. The series has a really wonderful, and fitting, ending and I find it rather remarkable as to how Hiroaki Samura manages to create these incredible, graphic and frantic battles juxtaposed by a story about how pointless all the violence and tropes of the genre are. There is this sense of sadness and exhaustion in the final chapters as everyone’s grand philosophies are revealed to be absurd and it’s just a bunch of sad empty people hacking away at each other. I immensely enjoyed the series.
Should we start a new thread for 2020?
Haha! I was thinking so but I haven’t read anything lately so by all means go for it and I’ll gladly contribute (soon).
