2020 US Presidential Election Thread

Agreed on both accounts. The arm chair diagnosing of Biden with dementia often swings into irrelevant ableism, and I felt the same way when people did that with Trump and narcissism. But I feel like we can’t get through a single debate or town hall without him saying something weirdly rude or off topic or just misspeaking in a way that causes everyone to go ‘umm, excuse me what?’.

I hope Armando Iannucci pops out soon and says the Biden campaign was all a prank. because I’m starting to get worried

Speculating on the health of people is obviously problematic for a whole ton of reasons but I honestly don’t know how anyone can spend more than one minute considering Joe Biden and not be extremely concerned that this man is who the Democratic Party see as their best option to face Trump. Trump being another man who regularly leaves you extremely concerned with whatever random topic he decides to shoot the shit about.

Idk how Armando Ianucci is perceived over in the states and I’ve never watched Veep but it’s extremely amusing to see him and all of the actors involved with The Thick of It turning out to be genuinely fond for the brand of politics they satirised so devastatingly and accurately. I got an email the other day from Chris Addison advocating for the most moderate Labour Deputy Leadership candidate that you know would’ve been slaughtered on that show.

Anyone else having 11th hour anxiety that Sanders will mess up his opportunity at the debate? I’m trying my best to keep the faith, but, I’m worried that Bernie is just too nice to really dig his claws into Joe Biden.

A policy debate is one thing, but Biden’s campaign has been an obviously desperate attempt by establishment Democrats to maintain relevance, and I think Bernie needs to confront that head on. The world is in crisis, and liberals decided that a barely coherent creep could coast on nostalgia and “decency” all the way to the presidency. Like, enough with this “I believe Biden could beat Trump” shit, SHOW PEOPLE WHY YOU CAN BEAT TRUMP, BERNIE!

Sanders should learn from Corbyn that you can’t defeat these people with civility. He has to go in Biden’s competency and record as hard as he can. The other side will, and have, use every trick in the book to kill off any leftward shift and we need to fight as hard or more. There’s a worldwide pandemic that the right and the centre are woefully unprepared for and this should be the easiest case to politicise and sell M4A to the American public.

I could see him essentially conceding to Biden about a week ago, but the US government’s simultaneous severe bungle of the COVID-19 pandemic and absurd expenditure on trying to fruitlessly prevent a market crash, has put us in a societal moment where Sanders’ policies are more critical than ever.

This is an extremely important moment for him to hammer home how desperately the country needs a socialist approach to its policy-making.

Things are so unpredictable at this point that I don’t know if this has helped Bernie by demonstrating the need for universal healthcare, or singlehandedly eliminated the chance he had since nobody’s going to go within a mile of a polling station. Biden is telling people to go vote as long as they aren’t actively sick, even though we know there is a lot of danger in asymptomatic spread. Trump’s odds are going down as he continues to flail in the face of this.

I wonder what would happen if Bernie did win the delegates but ends up with less of the popular vote due to a drop in numbers from people not risking it.

If Bernie wins the popular vote with significantly less voter turnout, they’ll decide this election was “an anomaly” and the media will do whatever they can to dismiss these results. If Biden wins with significantly less voter turnout, they will decide “business as usual” and never question it.

The one good thing about COVID-19 is that it takes Trump’s core, and sole, argument for re-election, and throws it off a bridge

Watching the debate… Biden keeps comparing the Coronavirus to war in a way I’m very uncomfortable with. It is not the language needed for a crisis that requires aid and compassion.

“What consequences should China face for its role in this global crisis?”

Who wrote these debate questions!?

Hello I’m back in this thread for debate talk and I’m still disgusted lol

Edit: to me, Biden appears to be destroying himself in this debate because his talking points are gross and wrong, but I’m curious to see how more centrist people and people who aren’t as online perceive this debate.

Politicians lying is nothing new, but it’s wild how many times Biden is saying he never did/said something that can be disproven in about as long as it takes to Google the statement.

If Bernie gets elected and abolishes ICE we need to push him to also make it so anyone who worked for ICE cannot go back into law enforcement at any level.

Edit: Bernie. Hey, Bernie, abolish the police wholesale.

Biden talking about making other countries uphold commitments to combat climate change… I ain’t saying the whole world ain’t gotta come together on this one, but Joe, the carbon emissions are coming from inside the house.

Shout out to Biden using the wrong and inflated numbers cited in the Black Book of Communism. Take a shot.

Xbox Live is back and Westworld is on, folks, if you need to punch out of this thread.

Final thoughts:

  • Joe Biden is a lying piece of garbage. Do not vote for him.
  • CNN clearly phrased questions to favor the candidate that they want to see win.
  • this was awful. I could have been playing Project: Snowblind instead of watching this.

Fully out on Joe the lying Reaganite. Whatever happens happens.
