Seems odd seeing how people constantly threatening to exile, torture, kill Ilhan Omar every day of her life doesn’t violate any rules.

Yeah, I can think of a dozen people on Twitter who can’t so much as post about their breakfast without freaks threatening them directly and nothing is ever done about it - but hoping for the worst when this particular man contracts a deadly virus requires their full attention. It’s not even a call to action or statement of intent, just ill wishes.
I know there are some specific legal protections for the POTUS, but also, I don’t recall Twitter being as swift to ban people for this sort of thing when Obama was in office, so…

She is, but it’s technically different felonies to threaten the President versus other government officials. Different organizations deal with it, too, so it could be a matter of how it’s enforced… but given how threats to Obama were treated by Twitter, I suspect it’s just that the management likes Trump.

Obama helped orchestrate the coordinated push against Sanders in the last primary, and actively discouraged NBA players from continuing their strike. If ever there was an avatar to useless and cynical neoliberal politicians, he’s it.
Not that there are many other options these days due to how forums and communities concatenated onto these few social media platforms, but I would encourage minimizing or eliminating interaction with Twitter since their laissez faire treatment of reactionary conservative groups is baked into the cake of the management’s political project. They’re just fine with seeing you feeling overwhelmed with anxiety about current events because it keeps people coming back and also keeps them dispirited about collective action.
I know it’s hard to overcome the compulsion, but no amount of self-curation will keep the website from finding ways to throw reactionary politics in your face.

I’m imagining a scenario where Ted Turner created a television network and then just fucked off and died.
You gotta be around to manage that shit, right? Outside of COVID, he’s in his late 70s. It’s far too late to be thinking about creating a whole TV Network.
Plus, I think anyone who advertised or fronted money to the network would be attacked on SO MANY angles from EVERYONE on and off the internet that they’d make literally 0 money.
Maybe it’s all gun commercials.
