They tried to fix that quest right?
Yes they did. They re-edited it to give you the choice to tell that dude to pound sand, I think.
I didn’t get the option when playing it through again last month. I could reiterate on multiple occasions that I only did it for the (totally non-fash) bloodline but it still happened.
I definitely think we should flood the internet with fabulous norse memes to prevent the weird pagan-fashies from getting their nasty little mitts on the blondies.
Jokes on them. Now they’ll never get ninja AC.
Reviving the old ACV thread (Maybe we can change the thread name?) to discuss the new gameplay footage.
Does anyone else find it’s not nearly as visually interesting as Origins? Like, something about it just seems off. I think it’s the interplay between colors and shadows, or maybe just the color grading in general, but I don’t think it looks very good. Also, a lot of the architecture feels just weird and off for the time period.
Otherwise, gameplay seems fine and similar to the last two entries, both of which I enjoyed.
On the plus side, looks like you can recruit cats for your ship!
I feel like the facial animations got worse from Odyssey to Valhalla… Combat seems fun. I always thought Origins and Odyssey played BEAUTIFULLY, so I’m excited to jump into combat.
This news surprised me:
That’s…hmmm. On the one hand, part of my problem with Odyssey was that the XP gain was so slow that it was easy to go into main quest missions underleveled and it would take hours of side content to get caught up. So, if this is the route they’re going to go, I hope that either 1. the XP curve is less brutal and/or 2. there are a lot of world events to take part in.
On the other hand, this might mean the game will be shorter than 150 hours.
It’s weird how I watch some gameplay videos and the conversation/cutscene animations are kind of bad? Maybe it’s because at the moment i’m enamored with one of the best animated cutscenes i’ve ever seen in a game I just replayed, but it’s kind of shocking how stilted everything looks.
I had a very similar thought. The vistas and everything are stunning, but as soon as everything gets in close, there’s a noticeable drop in visual fidelity.
I remain shocked by how few modern games, with all the technological advances of the past 15 years, can barely hang with Half Life 2’s facial animation, especially outside of cut scenes.
But clearly more RAM, teraflops, and SSDs are going to fix this problem and it’s entirely the current gen consoles holding everything back. /s
But like, even Odyssey had decent-looking conversations. It’s still early yet, though. And that build is probably 4-6 weeks old at this point, anyway.
“Vikings were just hardworking immigrants” is such a weird and inaccurate framing. While viking culture and society was much more complex than their classical depiction as simply murderous pirates they were also murderous pirates. There are interesting stories to tell about the Viking invasion of England, the Danelaw, and the rise of Wessex. But like most of history it doesn’t have or need a moral framework.
There was a weird tinge of colonialism apologia when that guy was talking about the Vikings were just looking for farmland, right before razing a village to the ground.
They should really just embrace the grayness of ancient and medieval warfare. There are no ‘good’ sides…
I caught that in my notes as I was watching it. It was kinda uncomfortable.
While I don’t doubt that, I’ve been dabbling in Origins lately and yeesh are those some stiff character animations.
But I felt like Bayak and Kassandra were great in their expressiveness, stiff or no… Maybe it’s the running in 1080p on a remote desktop, but the textures looked super muddy.
I also don’t know how much pcap Ubisoft does for these games. Not that it’s the ultimate solution for every animation problem ever, but it does make for a helpful baseline.
I dunno, I just don’t think it looks like anywhere in the British isles really. It looks like a weird fairytale land, compared to ACO which does a really good job of conveying Egypt:
Of course, the caveat is that the British isles have changed a lot in the past 1200 years, but still. Just feels off to me. It definitely looks better from a distance than it does close up.
Some streamers posted gameplay footage:
It seems fun enough, and I’m probably going to still get it and enjoy it. Just not quite what I was expecting, based on the last two installments.
