If they make an Aurum Vale (Hard), I’ll do it because it’ll probably be in EX Roulette, but I’m gonna complain like, the whole time.
I would laugh so hard but the thing about an Aurum Vale (Hard) is it’d be a level cap dungeon so you’d have full kit and the ability to easily outgear it, unlike level synch dungeons. It wouldn’t compare to the “you’re just shy of 50 and in bad gear” awfulness of the OG.
The worst thing about AV is that I’m actually used to it it because I can’t stand using PotD to level alt classes so I still level by running it until I hit 51. Fucked up but true.
good to know! anything that puts a spin on the traditional MMO archetypes is welcome in my book. i recently started leveling a healer in ESO to start a new character with some friends, and i’ve found it refreshing, too. the skill trees are set up in a way that let you mix and match whatever you want to do, save for the three skill lines associated with your class, so there’s a lot of freedom. i don’t have to just sit in the back and spam a heal spell, i can actually contribute to dealing damage along with the buffs. running around nuking enemies with spears made of light while also using that light to heal yourself is pretty fun. i’m told there’s challenging endgame content, too, buuuut i haven’t done much personally since i solo so much.
They’re still releasing content for it, last I checked - almost to Mordor now! Seems like one of those games that has a small but dedicated community, which happens surprisingly often with MMOs.
I certainly enjoyed my time with LOTRO years ago, it’s one of the most faithful representations of the books I’ve seen in video game land.
I’ve been trying to find a solid MMO for years, but I have yet to play one that I don’t have huge problems with, although I’ve not spent much time with any sub-only games. I’ve played quite a bit of SWTOR and GW2, but SWTOR would have been better off as KotOR 3, and GW2 feels to me like they took out the standard MMO structure and replaced it with nothing. (Beautiful game though.)
One of these days I’ll drag some friends into EVE with me, but that’s definitely the kind of game you need to dedicate yourself to.
Warframe is kinda like an MMO. I guess it is more of an instance based shooter. Really, it is third person Destiny if Destiny were way more fun to play and updated more frequently.
Yeah it’s still quite active if you’re on the right servers. Since they added global chat it’s always felt more lively. It’s definitely still the friendliest MMO I can name today.
Going to take another crack at FFXIV and Secret World (once it updates), but I did read today that Black Desert Online is coming to Steam and I’ve heard it’s endgame is mostly revolved around PVP so just a heads up for y’all.
If anyone has experience in BDO spill the dang beans on it here
I loved The Secret World, but never got out of Solomon Island, still not really sure why. I guess the game just felt so… empty. Even though I saw some people once in a while, I dunno. Felt like I was the only one playing. I am looking forward to going back to it, though. It’s one of my favorite MMOs, in part because of the lore and in part because of the investigation missions which are really cool!
i can’t recommend ff14 enough tbh.
played for about a year solid & only dropped off due to time & familiarity.
only mmo i have played except for some dabbling in wow when it was pretty new & never really grabbed me.
i just. love it? the thing i wasn’t expecting, past enjoying all the lovely places and things and mechanics etc etc is to really really love the story. a lovely story in an mmo i didn’t know it could happen i thought you just kind of existed in a big world. it’s very slow obviously but there’s a big wonderful cast of characters to fall in love with and it’s full of twists and turns and revelations and wonderful personal moments too. i miss it.
I played BDO for a few weeks. I was sucked in by the complexity of it at first. I spent three straight days just trying to figure out how to get a mount and set up trade routes/businesses in the starting cities. Unfortunately, it also made me realize how much of a grind that game was. I guess it’s not much different than other Korean MMO’s, but I bounced off once I realized how hard it would be to play it casually.
It’s a pretty game with fun combat and tons of stuff to do, but progression just takes a ton of time compared to other MMO’s I’ve played.
FF14 is perfect for me since I’m always the kind of guy who goes on and off games. I don’t have time nor enough discipline to commit myself to play everyday but I know the game will always give me fun new stuff to do and get me excited to play it again.
It’s also pretty much the only MMO I managed to stay for more than 2 weeks with Ragnarok Online when I was younger.
