Oh heads up to anyone that wants to switch to PC it’s on sale for about $40 right now on Battle Net
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Guardians!

I would imagine most people have moved on from this now, but I downloaded the free trial of this for the PS4 before Christmas (we got a new TV and the console had barely been touched in 2017 due to a newborn in the house. Destiny 2 seemed like a good way to see what the TV could do). Didn’t play the first one at all, as my days of online shooters died out a few years back, but I have really been enjoying this. To the point I actually bought the full game in the end (30% off in the PSN sale clinched it for me).
Only level 10, don’t really know what I am doing outside of looking at the big number on any new gear and swapping it in if it is higher than what I have equipped, but its good fun. I like just being able to join a public event, it lasting less than five minutes, and then doing a solo mission or two. The shooting itself feels good as well. Seems to take an age to load different areas though.
I’d say keep working on the story missions at your own pace, I find them quite fun and after you’re done you have many more options for progressing your character, as well as access to the raid, really fun to do weekly with clan folks.
The console clans have sort of slowed down a bit so you should have the opportunity to join one, much easier to find folks for activities and you get additional rewards over time.
Either request via this thread or head over to the Waypoint discord channel for D2 and request a spot there, where people group up for raids, strikes and pvp quite frequently.
Have fun
Thanks very much. I doubt I will be raiding, the chances of me getting more than 30 minutes in one session these days are minimal. Might try and find a casual clan who is ok with that (I assume if I do other stuff it all helps the clan, or are they just for doing raids?)
You contribute clan experience, and when someone in the clan, or a clan group does certain activities, everyone in the clan gets rewards. (Or… Something like that.)
You also get various perks, and the ability to do the “clan activities” milestone each week, for an extra powerful reward. (Which you can do solo.)
Ok cool, thanks. Now the Christmas break is over I think my PS4 time will be literally down to a couple of hours a week, so will hunt around and see if that is enough for a clan (still play lots of games, but it is on the Switch due to the portability/baby not letting me play in front of a TV!)
I do really like it though. Even the music is great.
Here’s something I made to complement my Destiny playing over my holiday vacation. I’ve thought for a while about a sort of Destiny Diary that would keep track of my loot drops and let me annotate them. This is all in service of playing conscientiously and tracking some of the memories that come with my play time. So I now have a byzantine set of command line scripts that fetches my inventory from the Destiny API, compares it to the last inventory record, and dumps out the new legendary/exotic items. Future state, maybe I build something to present it all with a nice calendar view or something. Here’s yesterday’s annotated list:
As a side benefit, I figured out how to equip items in the process, and nothing makes me feel like a cool hacker than typing something into a shell and seeing my hunter equip a rocket launcher.
I’m super happy to have built a little thing like this. I have a better appreciation of how complex the “real” item managers are, too.
So it looks like my streak of not caring about Destiny 2 is coming to an end. Anyone else going to check it out because it’s free?
Also, I’m curious if the timing has something to do with Microsoft relaunching their previous franchise on September 1st, but maybe that’s just a coincidence.
After not playing for like 9 months I’ve been checking it out again with the patch. Turns out they made the game good again by fixing all the things I thought were problems like 13 months ago.
Note to self: wait a year to play Destiny 3.
New DLC coming out Sept 4th, got to get those pre-orders up (is likely the reason for being free on PS+)
I’m pretty sure it’s more because they’re releasing a big Destiny expansion on September 4…
So it’s come to this. I’m playing Destiny 2. Fun fact, Destiny 1 is one of my favourite games of all time, and the game I’ve played more than any other (by far). But knowing all the changes they made initially for 2, and my experience playing the beta/demo I didn’t want anything to do with 2, and I’ve never regretted the decision.
With 2 being free on PS+, I feel like I didn’t have much choice. Played a couple of hours yesterday. Had a lot of fun in the crucible (thank god they brought back 6v6). Being lvl 2 with shit guns and still landing in the top half of the team is a rush!
And the loadoat changes, thank god again. You can actually carry a normal weapon, shotgun, and rocket launcher. Amazing.
Really hate the initial mission, it doesn’t fit within the game at all. Suspecting I won’t like story very much. But we’ll see.
Kinda looking forward to playing it.
The Forsaken expansion quietly updates Destiny 2 to be more like the original Destiny. So enjoy!
They even brought back your character’s ability to talk in the cutscenes.
Was just sifting through some news from the Microsoft press conference and this is pretty cool:
It looks like Gamepass subscribers get Beyond Light (and all previous expansions) for free. Not sure if it’s Xbox only or free on PC as well, but there will be an xcloud option. I played a bunch of Destiny on Stadia a while back and honestly the experience with streaming was pretty good so long as you avoid PvP. Definitely a good option for anyone who drops in to Destiny to check out the new stuff and then bounces.
Anybody know who’s voicing The Stranger in Beyond Light? Is that still Lauren Cohan?
I looked this up because I thought I recognized her… it’s Moira Quirk! She also does the readings of frequently-praised-round-these-parts Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth.
Oh cool. One of the most fascinating phenomenons in Destiny (to me) is watching which of the extremely expensive high-powered cast they originally had gets replaced and by whom. The good news for Bungie is that you will have to pry the part of Zavala from Lance Reddick’s cold, dead fingers.
I feel like Variks has a different actor now as well.
Nope, still Dee Bradley Baker, a.k.a. Basically Every Clone Trooper
