Do you like video games... on weed?

Never been high, and my current workplace has a pretty strict no smoking/vaping policy.

I rarely get high anymore, mostly because I don’t have a reliable way to get it anymore, but back when I did smoke a lot I played a lot of video games. I like to play a lot of older games when I’m high, like SNES, PS1 and PS2 games. Don’t know why but smoking cannnabis gets me feeling very nostalgic.

In particular I remember playing Little Big Adventure 2 a lot when completely stoned, not knowing how to solve any of the puzzles but just enjoying running around the world. That game is so atmospheric.

I smoke a lot of the time when I’m playing games since I’m doing it to relax anyway. Some types of games benefit from it a lot I find, but other types of games become pretty much unplayable.

Mixing weed with Soulsborne games makes me really enjoy the mysterious visual storytelling, and cuts down on the frustration from defeat in those games. Replaying classic games is also good because there is no longer a learning curve and dry tutorials are short, skippable or non-existent for the most part.

I love immersive sims but there’s no way I can play something like Dishonored high. I’m way less strategic and will find myself hiding on a ledge overthinking things for minutes, afraid to engage the enemies, especially since I like playing non-violently.

I also am bad at competitive Overwatch while high because I am pretty much unable to talk and fight at the same time.

To this day I have no idea how those dudes on Halo2 with dozens of weed references in their gamertags managed to be so good because I get nauseous just thinking about playing a competitive game if I’m high.

I knew this dude in my first year of university who would get thoroughly stoned and then reach a zen state in Halo 3 multiplayer. It must be tied into how one’s subjective perception of the passage of time slows down while high.

Personally, when I smoke I’m better able to continually focus on the main task in front of me, rather than enter into autopilot and allow my mind to wander to other subjects. It’s not conducive for trying to learn something, but it can be greatly beneficial for focusing on executing something that I’m already deeply familiar with.

It’s not for me. I can see the appeal but weed usually makes me dense and unfocussed and I much more enjoy to lie down, listen to calm music and talk quasi-philosophical bullcrap XD Gaming just doesn’t mix well with it.

Like I guess I get this but if I’m chasing after one target and someone blindsides me I just keep running forward like those decoys you got in Halo 4 until I’m gunned down.

Nice try, cop.

In all seriousness though? Nah, not really. Weed takes like, effort and knowing people if it’s not legal where you’re at, and I’m lazy.

Just go out into the streets and scream, “I need weed!”. 50/50 chance someone helps you out.

I used to get some good weed synergy on twitchy games where I had built up a lot of muscle memory, like THPS 2, or Mr. Driller, up to FPS like CoD MW. But the downside of performance enhancers is a) doesn’t last very long, then you start to play like garbage in the refractory period and b) it’s easy to OD and overwhelm any benefit with general intoxicated foolishness.

At any rate, I don’t play enough of anything to build up that sort of muscle memory these days, so the +3 buff tokes aren’t available to my class.

Starting about a decade ago I slowly slid in to what some would consider a stoner lifestyle. I smoke or consume nearly every day. It helps with anxiety and keeps my mood from going too far down the drain. I also have a job that can be very stressful, and sometimes the only way to get that stress off my back when I get home is to just get high.

There is also a level of pain management involved with it because I have a bunch of weird pains no doctor has been able to figure out, and weed helps dull that.

That said, yeah, I play most things while high. At first it was a real struggle because I felt like I had to basically relearn how to play games. My coordination was completely off and reaction speed was totally awful. Serious competitive games were kind of not really fun anymore.

Other stuff though was super great! I was able to become more absorbed and involved with the game world, and I was more easily able to understand specific mechanics that I kinda just blanked on before.

I think it helps me more fully embrace a game and accept them for what they are, instead of what I’d like them to be.

A little over a year ago I actually did quit for about five months, and if I’m honest it had a bad effect on me. I got frustrated at work, I was depressed and hurt a lot. My performance at work went downhill and I was easily irratible. As soon as I took it back up I started calming down again and my performance went back up.

So I guess I’m just a guy that smokes a lot of weed though. I don’t identify with the stoner culture at all though, which puts me in a weird place sometimes.

Also, for the record, I’ve never once gone to work high. I told myself years ago that if I ever went to work high, that’s when I know I now had a problem. Work needs me to be fully alert, and weed does not help that in the least.

The time in my life where I was smoking weed was also the time where I wasn’t really playing many games. I smoked a lot of weed alone and it made me so fucking lethargic/apathetic that I never actually did much but watch things, eat, and browse the internet. The only game I ever did play a lot of during that time was World of Warcraft which was kind of perfect for it. Roaming zones, doing quests, chatting with friends.

When I smoked with friends though we played a ton of fighting games. Our most played were probably Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, and Soulcalibur 2. These were really old games at the time but we loved them and played them for hundreds of hours lol. MvC2 especially was an absolute obsession.

Yeah, I enjoy the toke and play. Usually with Rocket League.

Weed was the performance enhancing drug of choice for competitive Quake 3 in the late 90s/early 00s.

Just spent a few minutes searching my memory for an Alex, because these are exactly the games that my friends and I played to death in acrid, smoke-filled rooms in my early 20’s. We played so much MvC2 that I modded an XBOX version of the game to have a custom soundtrack. Replaced the classic “Take You For a Ride” song with Refused’s “New Noise”, and if you made it to the vocals you had taken too long to choose your roster. We thought we were pretty good at that game, too, until we threw a party and a friend’s friend came over and hit us all with Combos (???), an aspect of that game we had never tapped into. That was extremely humbling.

as a kid the pot used to kinda get me in the zone for gaming. i was always better. it was magic or something, i dunno.

now it harms my motor skills to the point where i’m pretty useless at anything that requires serious concentration/precision.
