Episode 382: Life is Strange - Smallville

Is anyone else now starting to watch the Zach Snyder DC movies for the first time? Unsure how I feel about the pod starting me on this journey but I was VERY surprised to hear Austin and the gang say that both BvS and MoS had some good stuff in them lol

The “good stuff” usually comes in the form of lines or scenes or ideas that feel like they wandered in from better movies. Lex Luthor being a tech bro is a prime example. A great, modern idea, undone by Jesse Eisenberg’s performance.

Lol @ your final sentence. This is a good way for me to go into it then, starting with Man of Steel today

Just popping in here to say that EVERYONE should stop sleeping on Life Is Strange - Before the Storm. The climax of episode 2 is probably the best scene in the entire series by far. I think the series is in good hands with Deck Nine.

I think I got most of the Arkham games in a Humble Bundle and I always kind of avoided them because I heard that City was bloated and most people said Origin wasn’t very good. But I started playing Origin at one point and I legitimately enjoyed it.

I liked the Year One feel of the criminals knowing that something was out there coming for them, but not really knowing what it was.

And Austin was very careful not to spoil the turn, so I’ll respect that, the way when the Joker was revealed and met Batman face to face he imprinted on Bats like a baby goose was probably the first time I found The Joker interesting.

Have you ever played the Telltale Batman games, just out of curiousity?

I think the Deathstroke boss fight in Origins is the closest I will ever get to a Souls-like boss fight. I’m not sold on the game in its entirety but Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker are admirable stand-ins for Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, respectively.

It was a bummer that that series got kinda buried, because I thought the slow realization that John Doe might be beyond help, and that Bruce is directly responsible is really heartbreaking stuff.

I haven’t. Heard they good but never looked closely. Is it a Joker origin?

Yeah! The second episode in particular is very Joker-heavy, but he pops up in the first, too. Easily one of my favourite takes on the character ever, and if you found that specific aspect of Origins compelling, I think you absolutely owe it to yourself to give Telltale Batman a go.

I just finished the Snyder Cut of Justice League yesterday and it is occupying a very star angle place in my mind. As others have said I don’t think it was altogether a good or successful movie but it was fascinating to behold. For context I hated MoS and skipped BvS altogether so was surprised by the praise those films received on the pod. I really enjoy what Marvel is doing (especially post Age of Ultron) which seems not to be the popular view by the hosts aside from Patrick, so it is interesting to see Zack Snyder going full steam ahead with his god-complex character thing and hatred of saturation and color on screen. I think it is worth watching at least in bits and pieces if for no other reason than to dig into the wide world of Takes on this film.

Ah and it’s on sale on Epic, I’ll give it a try. Thanks!

Ah, fantastic! Oh, but just to clarify, I misspoke in my original comment: it’s the second series/game - Batman: The Enemy Within - that’s really Joker-heavy, not the second episode of the first series. Sorry!

Okay, cool. No worries.
Thankfully it’s the full bundle for like the price of two coffees.
