Episode 442 - Wiggle Waggle Into My Heart

Natalie and Rob went on a tear through Inscryption on last week’s stream, and so now the whole crew has to talk about how awesome this game is. Then special guest Austin Walker joins Cado and Patrick to talk through their time in the Elden Ring network test, and try to contain their hype as they discuss what worked and what questions still remain unanswered about the full game. After the break, the crew talks about the first two episodes of Otherside Picnic, the Roadside Picnic inspired anime about two women who find each other (and quite possibly themselves) in a creepypasta infused version of The Zone.

I just remembered, there’s an double episode of the anime Darker than Black that is just completely Roadside Picnic/Stalker. In the series backstory, two Zones appeared on Earth, one in South America called Heaven’s Gate, and another in (of course) Tokyo, called Hell’s Gate. Hell’s Gate has a huge fortress built around it and the only one’s allowed in are scientists, and can also grant wishes, with sinister consequences.

I love the crew’s love for Souls games and I wish I could participate in this hype. I frequently think about giving Sekiro another try, but then I think about how I don’t like the feel of basically any third person character action games anymore. I don’t know when or why that switch flipped in my head, but it’s become a real sticking point for me even when I want to give a game a good faith effort.

Aw, thanks for reading the email! Looking forward to how well/poorly Patrick fares if he dives into that murky pit out of curiosity nonetheless. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

As for anime recs, I think the ‘girls with guns’ trilogy (Noir, Madlax, El Cazador) is pretty well-beloved. I’ve only seen Noir, and the vibes are immaculate, just a beautiful tone-poem of a show that asks some heavy questions around when and how people can change. Available through Funimation, so I mean…

My heart literally skipped a beat when Austin started talking. I totally didn’t expect it and LOVED how they didn’t announce it or anything, just went with it. Assuming this was Cado’s post-production editing:

Hey, just wanted to mention that I finally pulled the trigger on Waypoint+ due to Natalie and Rob’s Epic Gamer Stream of Inscryption. Y’all are the best thing about video games, and I am so glad to be a part of the community.
