Episode 445 - An "Accidental" Pirate

We’re back! After our half week break we’re here and ready to talk about… HDMI splitters and their accidental “perks” if you know what I’m saying. Of course a story about a TV from Patrick was going to lead us into an entire segment on the structure of our entertainment systems and how hard it is to digitally back up our physical media collections. Then, Patrick has wrapped up the end of Unpacking, and find that thankfully the game didn’t skew as dark as he once feared it might. After the break, Cado has been checking out Get In The Car, Loser!, an RPG that tells the story of a queer road trip to defeat the Machine Devil while the Divine Order is on your tail, with an interesting Valkyrie Profile-esq battle system and hilarious writing. Rob on the other hand, has more questions than answers as he dives once more into the world of Sherlock Holmes with Frogware’s Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Watson is a ghost? You have to equip your thoughts??? Then we round out the pod with a dive into the question bucket with a lot of followups to the water-refill-at-the-drive-thru debate.

Another great episode with very interesting tangents!

Get In The Car, Loser! has been on my radar for a really long time. I’m surprised it’s free??? Either way, looking forward to playing it and enjoying the gay jokes. I’m planning on playing a little Unpacking tonight. I was tempted to shotgun it like Patrick did but made an effort to pace myself.

As someone that’s lived the Zacny A/V experience my whole adult life I have so much I could teach him when it comes to recording/streaming anything you want with as much convenience as possible. But I’ll just mention using an HDMI matrix, I have a 4-in-4-out matrix that lets me do things like send input 1 to outputs 1-4 or if I wanted I could send input 1 to outputs 2 and 4 while I throw whatever is on input 3 onto output 1 all at whatever max resolution the display supports, it even will downscale to 1080p on one output while the next is at 4K60. The downside (upside in my opinion) is you really need to stick to stereo and ditch surround.

I should have applied to that waypoint job purely to just run Rob through my setup if there were an interview.

Rob’s story about a friend that went to UPS reminded me of my brief time working for FedEx. His description was to a T what I experienced at FedEx. But at least UPS has a massive union and every UPS driver I’ve known, you always have the same driver in rural CO for years, has nothing but good things to say about working for UPS. In fact, a decade ago my delivery guy became the first trans-woman I ever met and was still a driver when I moved out of my hometown in 2014.

I’m sure the delivery machine is harsh wherever you go but I regret going to FedEx for a job in college.
