Is agency a lie?

Yeah, I’ve been meaning to replay it too.

You’re following waypoints and button prompts leading up to this, then you get a shift in perspective when firing mortars with the camera which distances you from your actions, and then you’re forced to walk through the horrors you just caused. The shift in music is super subtle and well done. Maybe my fave depiction of war in a game.[/spoiler]

i wasn’t super enthused about the stanley parable, but its interesting in the way it tackled agency. it was pretty surface level in its critique but the way it compared the lack of agency in a carefully constructed game to the lack of agency in people’s lives and careers which in ways are carefully constructed by institutions and other outside sociological forces was an interesting perspective.
