It looks like NeoGAF is no more

Weird to think that the wii shop channel and the miiverse outlasted neogaf (and vine.)

Woke up to this today. Feels so surreal. GAF was fantastic for being one of the few places on the internet where you could discuss gaming and other nerdy stuff in an inclusive, progressive, and adult setting. Also had a lot of the better sales discussion (Media Create, NPD, box office) around. That this sort of behavior was coming straight for the top and being covered up by a team of moderators is upsetting, to put it mildly.

Hi, anyway.

We need a new wrestling thread.

If it’s truly over i’ll miss the monthly what are you reading thread, lurked there for years and was introduced to some amazing books.

Yeah, I just created an account here becuase of all this, site seems nice.

It feels pretty weird. Bummed at the idea of potentially losing another forum I had been frequenting for years. First one was a comic book writer’s, Brian Bendis, that one was last to toxicity.

Other than that, I just got the Penny Arcade forums. Lose that one too someday and I might have to actually figure out how to use Reddit.

Was looking at GiantBomb forum but they don’t seem as pleasant as here.

It is going to be odd not being able to look at gaf everyday. The moderation had its issues, but some of the communities were great.

Hopefully, this site can be my new home to find breaking news on games, tv, films and news. It is weird though, that something like Neogaf can disappear in a instant, you are at a loss to find something equivalent. I will miss checking all the Off topic threads for shows though. I hope threads like that pop up here.

With that said, I hope more victims come out and discredit their abusers. It does feel like Rome is burning though a bit in the entertainment industry.

I always went to GAF for a sort of general news overview. If anything happened, you could pretty much count on there to be a thread about it.

I hadn’t posted much in years and years, but it’s going to be a tough place to find an adequate replacement for.

Since this thread is by and large turning in to a place for GAFers to connect:

-It’s totally fine to discuss your personal history with GAF in this thread!
-Please make sure to take the underlying issue of abuse extremely seriously if discussion heads that way.

Thanks!

All those wonderful game-specific and TV show OT threads are sitting there kind of useless now. Not to mention the current events commentary as it was happening. :expressionless:

It was nice to go to a gaming forum and not have to worry about hate speech being thrown around by children.

Hi everybody!

I hadn’t been on GAF for all that long, just the last couple years, but had lurked for a few years before that. I really hope the forum isn’t gone for good, I would really hate to see that whole site go down just because the owner is (most likely) a shit-stain.

The people there, for the most part, were great honestly, and it was my favorite place to discuss and read about games. It’s nice to see that there are other members here now, but I would just really hate to see that whole community get broken up like this, I feel like it deserves to stay together.

For now at least, since I’m a fan of Waypoint and really love the podcast, I’m looking forward to joining this forum and maybe posting here instead. So I suppose I’ll be posting my wild speculations about the Life is Strange prequel here now, and I’ll be looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the new Wolfenstein next week.

I joined GAF just in time for the WUSTs (Wii U Speculation threads) circa 2012. Then I found the PC build thread and used the resources there to teach myself how to build PCs. I currently have three gaming rigs in my house, it became a hobby unto itself.

I’d hate to know how much time I’ve actually spent on that site in the relatively short time I’ve been a member…

I actually lurked on Neogaf a lot, and just recently got my membership approved. It’s a shame, but the real tragedy from this whole situation are those hurt by the owner. Shout outs to the mods leaving in solidarity. It was the right decision.

Really bummed about what happened. The community threads for shows were fantastic on GAF. Watching the new season of Agents of SHIELD will not be the same anymore.

That said, good on the mods for not tolerating it or trying to do damage control for Tyler.

Yeah, even if the forum comes back, unless Tyler steps down, I refuse to use it.

It’s odd seeing a forum i posted on for years to under but the context in which it happened justifies its demise. I’ve listened to every episode of Waypoint Radio so coming here seemed like a natural fit to have an inclusive space to simply discuss games.

I had been on GAF since 2007. I had some great times on there. NHLGaf, RealGaf, PersonaGAF(for a time). I look back and appreciate GAF for being my place to talk about games instead of going to a horrible place like 4chan like a lot of my friends did at the time. This was like 10 years ago, so, I had spent a lot of time on there.

About two years ago though something changed and I started spending a lot less time on there. I stopped posting in the Gaming side entirely because of how disgustingly negative it was. Off Topic soon followed. Then I was only posting in the community threads I liked. Soon that stopped too as new people joined and took those threads in directions I didn’t like. Tried joining new communities but that never worked out, again, because of the aforementioned negativity.

So for about a year now I straight up haven’t posted on GAF. Still, it’s weird to see it go because I can’t deny the good times and friends I made there. Even if it comes back under new management or whatever I don’t think I’ll be going back. This place and Twitter have been much better for my current sensibilities.
