Tyr just released a full concert on Youtube for free with them performing with the Faroe Island Symphony Orchestra. Its really good.
I found these ladies because of my love of Band-Maid. I donât think Band-Maid qualifies as âmetalâ (though go check out Band-Maid), but if these cats arenât metal, I clearly donât know the meaning of the word.
Band-Maid is more rock I think? but they are badass!
Iâve heard Band-Maid classified more as âhard rock,â which is a bit more my speed than full-contact metal music. Still slaps, though. Literally:
Discovered this through the red and anarchist black metal subreddit (great resource, nice to see a part of reddit that doesnât make me wanna tear my hair out). Melodic black metal with amazing melodies, with some great traditional metal hooks. Iâve listened to my fair share of melodic black metal but Iâd never heard a band with such unique melodic metal riffs. Just about a must-listen for anyone into melodic extreme metal.
Protest the Hero have released two songs from their upcoming album and theyâre both so fucking great
Iâm so happy theyâre back
Iâm not huge into metal, but I do enjoy a good thrash-punk band (which is close enough, right?).
One of my favorite bands to skate/work-out to. Almost every song of theirs is an absolute ripper:
This band had a huge impact on me growing up. One of the first shows I attended in a row-home in the middle of nowhere. I play this record at least once a month:
Bandcamp is waiving their revenue shares today, so might I recommend this compilation? Itâs full of great antifascist black metal, and all proceeds go to BLM and Life After Hate. I would recommend the Panopticon track (#20), as they are the band that got me to venture into metal in general.
Oh man. Maaaan I really love this album. Imagine a top-notch folky atmospheric black metal album, but without any electric guitar whatsoeverâŚthe result is way more compelling than that may sound! This particular album by this one-man band is done with just acoustic guitar, some traditional folk instruments, drums, and synth, and yet is way more dynamic and captivating than your run-of-the-mill atmospheric black metal.
The album before this one also happens to be top-notch atmospheric black metal in its own right. The first album is a bit rougher around the edges, plus it has a weird electro(???) track as its final track, but I just overall recommend everything by this dude.
So I stumbled across this series of metal/hard rock/industrial collabs and itâs SO good:
This cover of Crazy Train is blowing my mind. I love Chelsea Wolfeâs music a ton:
YO! This is awesome! It sounds like angry hobbit metal and Iâm really digging it!
So this albumâs probably gonna be/is making the rounds in the metal scene, but just in case yâall missed it!
Medieval-themed atmospheric black metal, but rather than licking the boots of kings the album is from the perspective of anti-imperialist class struggle! One of my favorites this year. This may sound more lo-fi than some of yâall would normally like but I highly encourage checking it out, itâs got a ferocious beauty to it. Here are the lyrics to the final track if youâre not sold:
Who said thereâs no beauty in the mighty sword that cuts
In the song that fills our hearts with wrath
And makes us lift our fists to roar like boarsWho said that honour is meaningless
For humanity is lost and doomedThat thereâs no glory in our struggle
That our eyes see red and that our spirit is blackWho weeped that the fight is futile
When death is certainFrom the Jacquerie to the Spanish Irmandades
From Flanders to the Swabian highlands to KinaiThe fight against injustice is eternal
And Eternal we shall become
Oh thank you so much. This absolutely rules!
Loved Crazy Train. I was a fan of the Dillinger Escape Plan for so many years, seeing Puciato playing the bass with only 3 strings because why bother with the sharp string just cracked me.
This is fantastic. I wish the recording had better dynamic range (comes out a bit muddy, which is fine for this old doom/sludge fan), since the melodic stuff they do really deserves more clarity.
This makes me so happy
A local (Denver) outfit released their second album this year and it fuckinâ rules. Itâs this weird match of country and black metal. I also found out the guitarist/vocalist works at my favorite metal brewery, so I see him often when I go to pick up beer.
