Stern just announced a Star Wars pinball machine based on the original trilogy to celebrate the 40th anniversary! Steve Ritchie is doing the playfield, and the LE/Premium model has an exploding death star model. Not sure about the artwork, its the type of photoshopped mess that I really don’t enjoy, but the layout looks fun.
Last spring the arcade in my home town when I went back to visit had a Street Fighter 2 pinball table and it was the best. The ruleset was straight forward, beat all of the Street Fighter 2 bracket. There’s also a pretty good minigame built in where you have to crunch a car.
I’m a big fan of pinball, as much as you can be with only ever having played four actual pinball tables in real life. Pinball Arcade on steam is so good in that regard. I like the TNG table for nerd reasons and also because sometimes when you drain the ball Data will calmly explain to you how that was not the object of the game and if you hit the flipper buttons while he’s doing that Picard will cut him off with a “Thank you mister Data” and you will get bonus points. that is just very good.
also, Funhouse is real good and Ed Boon’s greatest role imho.
Yeah pinball arcade is great! What were the four tables you’ve played in person, I’m curious?
friend of mine has assembled a small arcade in his basement he’s got Baseball and 2001 which are two straightforward early 70s tables; Professional Pinball: Challenger III which is a conversion of 81’s Bobby Orr Power Play. and probably the highest profile of the bunch, High Speed which is a great table though sadly his wasn’t in great shape.
My parents bought found an Indiana Jones pinball table really cheap and I would spend hours upon hours playing it. It stopped working after a while and I’ve never felt more empty in my life. When they moved into their new office they moved it there and got it fixed, it was instant nostalgia when I started playing again.
