Managing Switch's Memory Without an SD Card Has Become Its Own Mini-Game

An SD card is pretty much a necessity in the same way that memory cards were in the PS2/GC era. Thankfully 128 GB cards are pretty affordable and I’ve still got plenty of space on mine. Aside from Zelda (which has been in the cartridge slot since launch day) I’ve gone all digital on the Switch since I love having a library always accessible.

When I had my Vita I eventually splurged and got a big memory card, and it was soooooo nice just having all those games at my fingertips.

I want the Switch to be the same way and maybe I’ll get there someday, but as everyone has already pointed out, the Nintendo Tax on all the eshop games has prevented me from really making the most of that system. I’d love to have Crypt of the Necrodancer on there, but it’s real tough to justify spending the $20 Nintendo wants when it regularly goes on sale for $3 or less on every other platform…

it’d be fine if i didnt have so many rpgs and rhythm games, hah. persona dancing takes up like 4gb on its own.

also killzone mercenary takes up so much space it might as well be unplayable. then i think it had like a 2gb patch on top of that.

I got a 400 GB SD card because based on my purchases from the Wii and Wii U, I knew I was gonna drop a lot of money on Virtual Console (whatever form it takes) and eShop titles. I usually wait and hope more indie titles go the retail route just to save me space. I usually prefer physical media because its easier to get some value back on it once I’m done with the game.
