Multiplayer Games as Just a Place to Hang Out

Me and my friends used to hang out on Sandbox maps for Arma 2 a whole lot. We’d invent game modes like hide and seek, or ride a bicycle down a mountain. Something none of us really had time for by the time the third game came out.

These days my friends hang-out playing tabletop games and I live in a different country so I don’t get to hang out with them like I used to. But I too play a bunch of board games with different people over here. The hangout in video-games thing lost its appeal when I moved into my own place and didn’t have to worry about my parents embarrassing me.

TTT was and still is my favorite casual let’s just hang out online game to play with a good group of friends.

The few games that have come since then that have tried to emulate it don’t get that what makes the game fun isn’t the core gameplay loop it’s just how free form the gameplay is and that it’s more of a slapstick murder party game with some RP thrown in.

Also Lua Coasters was amazing, I remember losing a few weekends with friends just building ridiculus coasters for each other to ride
