I had a feeling they’d be going there eventually, especially since Alan Wake hints at the sheriff being used to weird shit, but we never got details on that.
I wish my PC could run this…

I built a new PC with a RTX 2070 (bought a house and finally have room for room-scale VR and the Index announced right after we moved in). I’m very happy with the Index but Control looking like this and playing at 60fps with Ray Tracing on is justifies the [redacted] I spent on this PC more.
Heads up to any sufferers of Megalophobia, watch out for the Fridge side mission.
Me exploring normal games: I want some good loot.
Me in this game: i need more notes, let me readdddd
Just wrapped this up tonight. The last couple hours are so good, there’s one sequence in particular that I think people are going to love a lot. Eager for DLC / Expansion content now, I gotta know more about the FBC and The Oldest House.
Does this sequence involve a Walkman? If so, huge agree.
Just beat the game:
1. The fake out credits rivals Donkey Kong Country for beat fake credits sequence, actually it beats it out.
2. Porcupine Tree for the credits music is fantastic choice!
3. The director outfit is so good!!! The pyramid hair clip especially
Regarding outfits: There’s an alt version of the director outfit that’s hidden in a pretty cool puzzle, I like it a whole lot. It doesn’t have the cool hair clip tho
Really enjoyed this, although I wish the focus was a bit heavier on writing and lighter on combat – too many bosses felt like they could kill you in 2-3 hits.
I’m also excited for any news of DLC / a sequel, the setting has so much potential. Hope it does well for them.
This game is really the magnus archives the game. spefically season 2 where the real friends were the monsters we met along the way. If you are a fan of that podcast, I can’t recommend this game enough. (and vice versa)
I tried to solve the puzzle in the luck research lab and when I spun the roulette wheel my game crashed.
Be really cool if that was intentional. Be really bad if that’s just my luck.
lol I also got a crash after spinning the wheel once, so maybe there is some intentional low chance of that happening? More likely it’s some bug tho.
I love this game but am increasingly fustrated by the long load times (ps4 non pro ver) and lack of checkpoints on some later bosses where its extremely easy to die. The long wait and slog to get back to the boss/repeat has slowly killed my enthusiasm for this, its a shame.
I started the game last night, and it’s good!!!
Best part? The office chairs that spin like crazy when you brush them as you run by! Seriously, the physics simulation in this game is wild! Right now it feels like it doesn’t serve any purpose other than aesthetics, and that kinda rules!
I’m excited to play more!!!
So I beat Control this morning. Mixed thoughts about the experience overall. The first couple of hours made me think I had my game of the year. But then the last third really cranks up the “difficulty” and there were fights that took me dozens of tries to beat. The world building also slows down, and the main conflict just wasn’t enough to make up for the lack of new weird things to take in. Overall still a fantastic experience, and I hope it inspires more 3D games to utilize metroidvania design elements. But alas, my search for a true GotY must continue.
How is the frame rate? I normally don’t care too much about that sort of thing but I’ve heard some pretty dire stuff.
Three hours in and this was one of the first things I noticed. It feels like such a natural choice for a space like The Oldest House to have backtracking and passages that double back and loop around and open up as you go. It’s not the first game of the past year or so to do this (God of War 2018 being the other big one), and as someone who always feels a bit overwhelmed by big open worlds, I hope it catches on as a way to deliver the freedom and side-quest appeal of open-world games in a more directed and focused fashion.
I keep seeing people on the social media complaining about the Oceanview Motel, saying it took them really long to get through. Saw one video when on the way to grab the Hotline they were convinced it bugged (I muffle-screamed at my screen every time they ran by the thing that did the thing they needed).
Curious if anyone else had trouble with these sequences. My brains broken so I guess I wrapped my head around the logic immediately.
I’ve never had any problem getting through the motel but I’ve also never felt like I figured out some secret. It all seemed pretty straightforward, which makes me wonder whether I actually solved anything or just happened to stumble to the solution.
So, one I remember off the top of my head; the first room has everything set up, the second room has all the same items in different places. Arrange them to match the first room and the key pops in room three. Is that the actual solution?
Something I’ve been wondering whether it’s baked in or whether I need to play with my TV settings: is the bloom lighting really harsh? Like, even just the light from regular overhead florescents, I have to squint until the screen adjusts. I tried turning the brightness down but then I literally couldn’t see dark areas.
Have others had this experience?
