Resonance of Fate, one of the best JRPG no one played

there are so many games on my “gotta get round to this one!!!” list I’m going to have to fight younger me until she agrees to play them sooner

This is making me want this more.

I should really get round to replaying RoF. I remember loving the customization and gameplay but never really figuring out what the story was about. Maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention.

I loved the gun customization and playing dress-up with the characters, but felt that the battles got a bit repetitive by the end, and the arena nearly burned me out on the game. Still sad we didn’t get a sequel tho

I stopped on the 3rd chapter years ago.

I loved this game. Partially because of the clothes but also because stacking scratch before doing a huge amount of damage with a direct was addictive as shit.

I distinctly remember getting stuck at a section on a bridge where you only have like 1-2 characters and getting mad because I couldn’t tri attack. Wouldn’t mind going back to it one day.

Still hoping for a remaster some day. There isn’t anything quite like it. Great game.

Wait, I think this game is on my PS3 right now. If you guys think it’s that good, I guess I should play it eh?

Yeah, if you’re into JRPGs and want something totally different, you can’t go wrong.

Game looks so daunting though.

Well, damn. I guess I have to play it now. I think I remember seeing some insane gun customizations.

I really enjoyed what I played but combined with having other games that took priority and getting stuck at a tough boss I stopped playing.

This game needs a PS4 remaster.

It definitely seems a bit more unique than the usual JRPG that goes around.

And damn @gio at that cutscene, what the hell is it really like that in the game? haha

I wouldn’t say it’s daunting, so much as… obtuse? I really hate saying “read a tutorial” but there’s a few unintuitive mechanics (like the Hero Actions mentioned upthread) that make the game much easier and more awesome-looking when you get the hang of them.

Once you do, you start to speak the language of the game and it’s not as overwhelming.

Obtuse is a good way of describing it. The game wants you to play in a very, very specific way and is pretty punishing if you don’t.

Once you get it though, like you said it looks awesome and it’s way easier (difficulty spikes/gates aside)

Man I’d love a sequel to this game. Cool characters, cool world, cool mechanics.

Man I really wanted to love this game but after 50 hours of endless combat with a story I didn’t understand I simply got burned out. It quickly became a ‘How cute can I dress Leanne’ paper doll game with a tedious grind to buy more clothes.

Seriously, what was going on in that game story? My buddy beat it and said it was basically ‘yeah, they walked out of the tower and that’s it’.

Add this to the endless list of JRPG games I own that are on my “to play” list. It does look like fun. I hope to get to it one day.

I remember playing this back when it first came out. I really liked what it was putting down at the time; the customization and general vibe of the characters is right up my alley, but I found the combat system completely impenetrable. I need to revisit it sometime. Bailing on it is still one of my bigger gaming regrets.

Its a good game but later during end game basically you’re just doing the same tactic over and over and over and over and over again to go through battles.

The dress-up part of the game is particularly very enjoyable though.
