These games are kind of like Persona without the life sim part correct? Don’t know if I would enjoy since the character interaction is my favorite part of Persona, not the dungeons.
They’re still centered around a story, you’re just not having to manage your days while a cat forces you to sleep.
I forgot Atlus switched up europe publishers so now this may come out over here in a normal timeframe after the US release.
Yessssssss! SMT is one of my favorite series of games. Loved it since Nocturne. Very much looking forward to playing this on my Switch, will probably be a perfect train game.

If Atlas ever gets its head out of its rear and unblocks the share button on persona 5 I’ll finally dig in
Can’t view the trailer at the moment, but pretty excited for this! Did they give any kind of release window? Otherwise I’m going to assume it’s first half of 2020 in the west. hahaha
Switch exclusive? Has that been confirmed? I only get one console a generation so am hoping it comes to PS4. If not, ah well.
I’m a huge fan of Persona, but I’ve never had the privilege to play a Shin Megami Tensei mainline title. I look forward to checking this out when/if it comes to the west.
Do the stories in SMT and Persona interact at all? Like will this be post persona 5 or are they kind of their own thing just sharing the persona system?
They are their own thing. They can be played completely individually for the most part. They share gameplay systems, enemy designs and art styles primarily.
No each game is completely autonomous and shares no story links with Persona or other SMT games (with the exception of SMT IV-A)
The battle system is also very different, the games are in first person, you recruit demons into your party by having conversations with them in battle.
The only real similarities to the Persona battle system is the Press Turn system.

The only SMT games I played were Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga which were third person. Are all the rest first person?
Oh i forgot nocturne was in 3rd person.
SMT 1, 2, IV, Soul Hackers, Strange Journey are all 1st person.
This one will probably be 3rd person like Nocturne, now that I think about it.
Never played a SMT game before, seeing as I have a switch. I’ll pick this up.
So every one I haven’t played lol. I’m a PlayStation player so I played Nocturne, DDS, Persona and the Summoner games so when you said first person I was like, huh?

You should really play IV and/or IV-A. Amazing games. The former has been on sale for as low as $15 numerous times.
SMT Strange Journey on 3DS is another must-play when it arrives. The original on DS is fantastic.
I don’t think we will see SMT V in the West until 2019 at the earlieat so hang on to your 3DS!
I’m hoping the law and chaos characters get more time in this one to slowly move towards their roles.

If you’re interested in SMT, SMT4 and it’s sequel SMT4: Apocalypse are both good starting points, particularly since I think it’s safe to assume SMT5 will be closer to them than the earlier games. SMT4:A also has more of an emphasis on story and characters than its predecessor (in addition to some very appreciated quality of life improvements) so I think that one might be the better choice for Persona fans.
This series always oozes style, but mainline SMT music is on another level.
I’m anxiously awaiting a localization.
