Soccer/Football/Futbol Fans (EPL Fantasy is back! Post #668)

I was raised as a Machester United fan and I still am to this day (congrats on your won this morning Arsenal). I am also a staunch Seattle Sounders fan.

Really good win for Arsenal. I had pretty low expectations coming into the game. Was really surprised with the line up selection.

Looks like Liverpool has become the official EPL team of the Waypoint staff. :red_circle::red_circle::red_circle:

Just came here to post this.

Just in time to be crushingly disappointed by the next two months like the rest of us! YNWA baby!

(In all seriousness Liverpool was always the perfect Waypoint team)

(if only because Peter Moore is their CEO)

I asked Austin once who he supported and he said he used to follow Liverpool. That was enough for me. But this? This is a whole thing! I can’t wait for the 101 on us pissing away a 7 point lead

Ok, up front - fandom is arbitrary and ultimately meaningless, and I am happy the Waypoint Crew has decided to start following soccer.

That said, I am irrationally but unspeakably sad about this decision, as a Tottenham Hotspur fan. I’m sure every fan on here probably feels like their club in some way fits the Waypoint vibe, but damn I thought we were a lock. Like, used to be pretty good then were terrible for a while, now back to being pretty good again but also scrappy and thrifty and working class? What more could you want? Also Spurs’ third kit is almost exactly Waypoint colors.

Nevertheless, again, I’m happy they’re following the sport, even as I’m sure some of their future takes will end me. Congratulations, Liverpool fans.

I have no idea how Spurs are maintaining such a high level of performance throughout the whole season without buying anyone. It’s as big a mystery as the Leicester league win to me honestly.

I genuinely think it’s down to Pochettino and the coaching staff. He’s not always the most tactically savvy, but he seems incredibly talented at getting the best out of players.

That said, the wheels seem to be coming off a bit now. I hope the players can get some rest over the international break, but that seems unlikely for the mainstays.

the ideologically correct club to support is afc wimbledon unless of course they’re bad now

Dulwich Hamlet are the only ethical team to support under football capitalism.

LFC got that Bill Shankly socialism connection tho, they’re the most lefty major English club (culturally at least, not really reflected at all in the ownership or operation but hey) so they’ll do

You’re right @electronicoldmen I can’t think of another top flight club were politics (leftist politics at least) is ingrained into the club and city.

"Yet Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci criticised Kean, his 19-year-old teammate, for his reaction. According to Football Italia, the defender said: “Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he has to focus on celebrating with his teammates. He knows he could’ve done something differently too.

“There were racist jeers after the goal, Blaise [Matuidi] heard it and was angered. I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn’t have done that and the Curva should not have reacted that way. We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone.”"

Man what the hell Bonucci. Like for real, literal victim blaming. Also, what a damning statement about the Italian fans - well, if you over-celebrate they’ll just be racist inevitably, cause you know, they all racist. It’s incredible.

Also, Guardian, how do you just leave this without comment? Allowing him to say this without challenging it is so unhealthy, and would be a scandal in literally any other field. Tired y’all…

Bonucci is wack as fuck. The victim blaming is so wack. Dude didn’t even have the back of his own teammate. Allegri wasn’t much better either. He made a similar statement about Kean’s celebration.

Reflecting on it further, Juventus just sucks in general.

So Liverpool could do the double this season. I feel like that’s really understated. Maybe cause the league drought, and Liverpool having pretty recent successes in the CL?

If I’m not talking about it, it’s because I don’t want to jinx anything, but also with regard to the league we still need city to drop points. Much easier to talk about that kind of stuff when your team’s fate is in their own hands.

Yeah aggro, I’m too scared to jinx anything

Not sure if this is the spiciest take, but I think Spurs should probably sell Harry Kane this summer. Son is just so good.
