I picked up the 4k UHD digital version and I think my TV is now in the grips of an existential despair because it knows it will never show anything as gorgeous ever again.

A couple things I noticed:

  • The “animating on the twos” technique they used stands out even more at home.

  • For as absurdly detail oriented most of the movie is, there’s one particular scene where all the Spiderpersons-and-robots swing away from Miles’ window and they all just shoot there webs straight up into the air. There are clearly no buildings around. I am going to choose to believe that it was a deliberate tribute to the old Activision games, because otherwise it’s bizarrely sloppy for a film that otherwise is so tight with everything.

  • I didn’t realize Oscar Isaac had a cameo (I had seen the scene, just didn’t realize it was him). He better be in the sequel.

  • I know we basically already got a Spider-verse animated series with 2099, but I really want a full new series. Or just a Spider-Gwen series. Or a Peni Parker series. Or a Spider-ham series. Or a noir series. Or all of the above.

Can’t wait to see it again for the 8th? 9th time this weekend?
