[Spoilers]The Mandalorian Discussion Thread

I keep being reminded of this tweet when people talk about the helmet stuff:

“Revan decided to do mass space genocide to save everyone because he’s a dumb idiot, here’s eight randos having to deal with this nonsense they have no context for.”

Still, the idea could work if they just ignored literally every idea Bioware had that wasn’t apart of the eight core stories. Or, they could look at the time between KOTOR2 and TOR, which feels like the most interesting time period politically for the galaxy. Actually directly look at the new way of things the Exile helped create instead of just kind of brushing that entire game aside for Revan’s Dumb Genetics Fun Hour.

The idea that there are different sects of Mandalorian culture (which could also be tied to the clan system) with varying levels of strictness to the creed makes a fair amount of sense.

The Mandalorian ends the way it began, a barely coherent jumble of ideas designed to appeal to directly to nostalgia with little care given to anything else.

I’m not going to lie, I found the show entertaining throughout, but it’s a show that one day aspires to the level of fridge logic. Nothing matters to this show beyond the moment it’s trying to make happen. Mando wandering through the sewers to find the pile of armor on the floor is certainly a good character moment but… why is that pile even there? At first it makes sense that the imps left it there as a message into our badass blacksmith shows up and is salvaging it so… she’s the one who left it there? She carefully, deliberately, and methodically left a giant pile of the dead right where someone could walk by and find it outside of her forge so she could use her floating hand truck to move them the final fifteen feet? The only other explanation is that the imps cleared the place out and left that there but ignored her and her forge for some reason. Mando’s supposedly lethal head wound just needs some Resident Evil brand first-aid spray to make it all better and he’s bleeding through solid beskar somehow. Let’s not even get into the argument about droids and whether or not they’re living things.

It was a really fun watch at times, but the first five minutes of the finale made me wish for a totally different show. Give the entire things to Taika, and give us the Mandalorian show that doesn’t even try for emotional pathos. I’d be much more into a silly romp with occasional great action than this eye-roll worthy melodrama of his real name and where he came from. Much like Thor, Taika realizes half of the fun is just how ridiculous everything is and the show is infinitely better when it leans into the absurd instead of when it leans into the feels.

I don’t want KOTOR, I just want a show about The Old Republic as an era in Star Wars. Revan is canon again thanks to RoS but only that he existed, throw KOTOR’s story into the legends bin and tell any other story set in that period.

Really I think maybe I just want a story where The Force isn’t some known mythical thing that they aren’t sure exists or have never heard of it because it’s bullshit every time this happens in a Star Wars script.

Disney really needs to start exploring the force going forward from a philosophical angle but I doubt that won’t happen unless an ambitious showrunner cashes some clout.

When it was clear the story was wrapping up heavy on the “go on without me” /“noble character sacrifice” I actually yelled at the screen
“don’t you kill Carl Weathers, you assholes!”

he lives, in contrary to 90’s action movie rules, thank god. but robot friend dies

The correct answer

Give Shinya Tsukamoto a star war

Following up Tetsuo with a higher budget but not as good retread of it and then following up THAT with a higher budget but not as good retread of Tetsuo II? He may already be on Disney’s short list.

Make Star Wars public domain! I’d be on an X-Wing/Tie Fighter game faster than a Tie Defender with lasers, shields and beam energy set to minimum.
