Just going to also say that Eizouken is very, very good so far. I’ve always been a complete sucker for intricate and lived-in background art (e.g. almost everything Ghibli has put out, but especially Whisper of the Heart), and this show has some of the best I’ve seen in any anime.
Dorohedoro hasn’t started yet (it starts airing this Sunday), but they put the opening online already and it’s pretty good:
That’s a good op. I really need to finish the manga.
Watching an opening before watching the first episode is a spoiler. My hot take.
Man I’m VERY impressed with that OP. I’ve gotten so used to the typical shounen anime OP of establishing shots of each main character, action scene, then maybe some side characters before the title splash that this was a breath of very fresh air.
Love the splash of colors to instantly make it stand out from manga, and the sorta violence and over-the-top chopping she does as a hint of the same things that’ll probably happen through the show too. I’m so hyped for this show.
Decided to look where I’ll be able to watch Dorohedoro and

Goddammit
Laaame.
Still waiting for Beastars.
Same, I want to be able to recommend it in earnest instead of going “umm, yea you gotta pirate stream it with fansubs”. I hope it’s not gonna be one of those things where Netflix commission a couple of seasons and then we’ll see no more of it. I really enjoy this series and judging from snippets I’ve seen from the manga it can go some really fun places.
So what are y’all watching this season?
I’m still a little torn on ID:Invaded. On the one hand, this most recent episode helped to establish the tone it seems to be going for a lot better than the initial couplet did. However, I’m still not entirely sold on the world it’s making and what all it wants to do. I kinda like how dark it went in Ep 3 without reveling in nihilism porn, but as other media has shown, that can be such a slippery slope to the point that it wouldn’t surprise me to see the end of this cour just being more ‘grimdark for the sake of being grimdark’ lousiness that I’m just so tired of. My apprehension aside, it still seems interesting and hasn’t done anything to turn me off yet. (CW in the third episode though for graphic depiction of suicide and coercion to commit suicide)
Pet, on the other hand, surprised me with how much more invested I got with it’s most recent episode. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of the premiere – what with almost nothing being explained, including who its characters are or what its tone actually is – but now I have a much better idea, and I’m pretty excited to see what’s in store. It’s absolutely still best described as Inception by way of Satoshi Kon, but Ep2 brought with it a lot of interesting moralistic questioning, as well as the seeds for some interesting topics that it could shed new light on (and considering this is an Oomori joint, I have little doubt Pet will go to some intriguing places).
And both Eizouken! and Somali have been utterly delightful so far.
Bummer about Netflix deals aside, Beastars has a release date!
I devoured seasons 1 to 3 of My Hero Academia earlier this year. Now I’m six episodes behind on season four. I’ve found it difficult to see the motivation behind the events currently underway. They are running around fighting some people but nothing happening seems important to the overall story. The first three seasons and the events of them makes sense to me, and are so centred around Deku’s growth. This feels like a sidestory. Maybe just me?
And a small thing, but I dislike how they are still showing the name and ability of who ever shows up on screen. They started that in season tree for some reason. We are already watching, we know who people are!
This season has been really weak for me as well, but they just wrapped up the first arc so I’m hopeful that it picks back up. For me the problems are that they’ve sidelined almost all the characters and that the pace has been so meandering. One of the few redeeming things about this arc for me was that we finally get a glimpse of Deku using his full power and it was glorious.
Yeah, MHA’s arc that wrapped up just now is one of the weaker arcs (though it has its high points), and imo this is the point where the manga also became more hit or miss. That being said, I remember the next arc mostly being pretty good and a nice change of pace. They just released a trailer for it also:
Is that the arc with all the plague mask people? I completely fell off the manga at that point.
Oof yeah I felt this arc drag for sure in the middle, even rewatched the whole arc after it ended to see if it wasn’t just because of the weekly format, but no it’s just kind of eh for a while.
Really exciting finish though and I’m very glad to hear it picks back up.
With JoJo, DB Super and Beastars having wrapped up seasons I don’t wanna drop it since I like looking forward to anime every week, other than MHA my other one’s Eizouken which has been quite a lot of fun and relaxing.
Maybe I’ll get into Dorohedoro next, sounds promising and that opening they released is stylish af.
I’m still watching Chihayafuru, and I’ve started Dorohedoro. I adore the manga, and the anime seems alright - it’s only a 12-episode season, so I don’t know how much it’ll really cover or if it’s got the legs to be a full adaptation, but the characters are great so I’m happy to watch whatever I get with them.
BNA got a trailer finally and it looks like it’s gonna be real fun and stylish. Also 1. Wolf boyfriend, 2. Let. women. furs. have. muzzles.
(I promise I’m not just here for furry anime but tis the season)
Big same on 1. being excited and 2. femme furries should have snouts and more animal like features and not just be “anime catgirl” but like I’ll give props to Yoshinari and his team for giving the MC tanuki markings and features that suggest fur and claws, unlike that other furry anime who’s name I can’t recall that’s airing this season where the dudes are full ass animals with snouts and fur and the girls have like… human skin but also happen to have cat ears and tails.
In terms of what I’m watching this season: Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken is literally curing my artist’s block and helping me remember just how fucking fun and off the cuff solving problems can be, and sort of unearthing childhood memories of experimentation with animation that I desperately want to get back into. What a beautiful, joyous show.
Watched an anime called Babylon that was released last year, expecting a police procedural and it definely is not. Instead I got a mixture of a fairly brutal Hannibal style thiller and a philisophical debate about the morality of suicide and the nature of good and evil. Also abruptly ended at episode 11 as the narrative switches to a fictional president of the united states.
Hero Academia’s new OP and ED are both pretty good
