Guys, I have to tell you about this truly ridiculous problem I am having. I recently wanted to re-sub to FFXIV after taking a break.
(okay i ragequit my sub after the genderlocked races were announced)
I wanted to get back in the game. So I went to log in. It told me I needed a One Time Password from my Squenix Security Token app, which is on my phone.
Problem: the Security Token app has randomly forgotten my credentials, so I have to re-input all my info. This includes a One Time Password from the Squenix website.
I go to the website to get the OTP to re-activate my Security Token app. The website says to log in… I need a OTP… from the Security Token app.
So due to this recursive problem, I am totally locked out until SE customer service fixes it.
That bonus aetheryte sync is just not work it, y’all.
Hey, there was a live letter! They also made a forum post summary where Yoshida and Soken answered folks’ questions on lots of things, from balance changes, to ShB observations, to future plans, and it’s very much worth a read (fairly mild spoilers though).
Some of my favorite things:
Ninjustsu will be reworked around lag limitations (Q1)
Trusts will continue forward into new MSQ dungeons and possibly be added into previous MSQ dungeon content (and will not require leveling for 5.X content) (Q12)
Yoshi-P likes best cat boy, Runar (Q15)
Soken doesn’t know what the lady is singing about in Rak’tika either (Q20)
Resources are being spent on making the ARR MSQ more compact (!!!), and they’re hoping this will be implemented by 5.3 (Q41)
Yoshi-P is a mean person who likes seeing you forget to repair your gear before putting it in a glamour dresser (Q52)
NieR gear from the Alliance Raids will NOT be gender-locked!!! (Q70)
Lots of exciting stuff there, although that first bullet point is especially thrilling to me. Also, hi everybody I’m in Heavensward now! (Although I’ve spent several hours since arriving there leveling MCH and DRK.)
Looks like you’ve been way more thorough than I have. I tried taking my time with my first character, but I didn’t quite get fully invested with them and my interest petered out. Then that 3 day free play promo thing happened, after I got that free Heavensward a while back, so I made a new Au-Ra lady and comitted to just beelining the fuck out of the main quest. 3 days later I was level 34 odd and some Serious Shit had gone down, I was completely invested. I got a month long entry subscription.
Not without sacrifice though. I knew Entry subscriptions only let you have one character per server, but I thought I’d be able to choose which one. Turns out you don’t, it just defaults to your first character. And you can’t change that playable character, even through contacting square support. So in order to play with the character I’d made the most progress with and enjoyed playing as the most, I had to delete my first character.
RIP in peace Melia Fantasy, you were alright. At least I saved her character data, so she now lives on as the retainer for my current character, Rei Dhoro. That gives me a bit of closure, at least.
A bit late, but I cleared Eden’s Gate Savage this week! Was a fun set of raids overall. I enjoyed the pop-up mechanics in the Savage version of Titan. It was the most interesting thing they’ve done with the arena since Binding Coil.

Man the effusive praise for Shadowbringers has been so warming as a longtime FF fan who has stuck with the series through its highs and (alleged!!) lows.
I played all of ARR but fell off once Heavensward came out.
Being a new dad I love that Shadowbringers now lets you bring AI party members for main quest dungeons. Kinda wishing I’d marathoner Heavensward/Stormblood before my baby was born because the prospect of dozens and dozens of multiplayer dungeons which require 15-45 mins of uninterrupted playtime is… daunting, haha.
Any other new parents playing through FFXIV? I’m thinking I might wait and hope they had the AI teammates to the pre-Shadowbringers content, but AFAIK they haven’t confirmed doing that.
Might have to settle with just listening to Soken’s Shadowbringers OST in the meantime, which is ace.

Not included on that site, but still very important (to me) is the changes to the Performance feature. It looks really cool and weird and I’m very excited to see what the community does with it.
Hello all! After two moderately extended dabbles in the game, I think I am now securely in it and just would like to echo the rest of the internet in saying that this is very fun. I’m now in Heavensward with my Au Ra Dragoon (Malboro server), ready to jump down upon any villains who come my way.
This is probably the most I’ve ever been properly invested into an MMO. Up to now I’ve basically been playing it like a solo JRPG with occasional co-op dungeons, but I think since I’m getting this into it I may as well see what the social stuff is like. Part of that will hopefully be discussing more here, and I suppose I’ll try and find an FC and all that (any Waypointers on Malboro with an FC rec?).
I’m also already fighting the urge to try another non-DPS class, but thankfully the story compels me forward enough that I haven’t given in yet.
For what it’s worth, I definitely encourage you to check out Dark Knight, Astrologian (both start at level 30) or Gunbreaker (starts at level 60), it would let you get a taste of something new with minimal interruption to the story!
Also it’s been a while since I leveled my first job, but I’m pretty sure you can pour some of your daily roulettes on a side job without falling behind on MSQ levels.
I’m saying this because trying out healers and tanks was my first real eye-opener in what makes this game tick, and how to play it properly, so I definitely recommend it!
Edit: A ranged DPS (magical or not) is also enough of a shake-up to the experience that I would consider it as well, in case healing or tanking are looking scary
Hmmm that’s a nice perspective to hear. I’m part way through HW now and still ~4 levels above my current MSQ, so I guess there’s still plenty of XP to go around. I’ll see how much my focus on mainlining the story continues!
In the abstract I’m probably more interested in trying healing first, but Gunbreaker is just so over the top Final Fantasy that it is very appealing.
After playing at my usual easygoing pace for the past few months, I finally finished Shadowbringers yesterday. This is the first time I’ve been up to date with content in an MMO ever.
I was looking forward to running endgame content with my FC only to realize that I now actually have to pay attention to my gear/iLevel. Time to hop on that endgame treadmill.
