I saw that! And was impressed. But then I remembered it’s a streaming service, which put a damper on my enthusiasm. The library is pretty damn solid, though, and having big games will definitely give the service more leverage than it had… but I really prefer the ability to at least download a game so I don’t have to rely on Internet connection to run it at the best possible settings. If Microsoft can make it work, so can Sony… I’m sure they are dragging their feet for a reason, but I can’t figure out what it is.
Yea, for the PS3 I get it because of the weird architecture, but I have to imagine the PS4 is plenty powerful to run a PS1 or PS2 emulator. It’s a huge bummer considering up until recently, almost all PlayStation consoles had really robust BC capability (PS1 and PSP excepted).
You do have the ability to download some PS4 games to your PS4 (found this reddit list that tells which are downloadable, but I personally can’t verify its accuracy). Couple of points to note: via Playstation
“- A valid PS Now subscription is required to continue accessing downloaded games, you also need to connect to PSN once every 7 days to maintain access to the game.”
“- Once your PS Now subscription lapses, or you haven’t connected to PSN for a longer period, you will not be able to access games downloaded from PS Now.”
I’m with you though. with as well as Game Pass seems to be doing, I’d expect Sony to step up and make some improvements to the service.
That’s… a ton of PS4 games I could download if that reddit list is to be believed.
Think I’ll give that 7-day trial a run after GOTY season to see if I can actually get some streaming going and maybe finish… Gravity Rush Remastered?
Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera being on there make it really tempting!
I do wish that when the PS5 launches, Sony just combines PS Plus with PS Now, since I’m already paying for the former. The “free games” aspect of Plus seems redundant with the PSNow collection and being able to download games from there too. Tying the online multiplayer to PSNow would also ensure a lot more subscribers to the service! Streamline the subscriptions for my budget and convenience, is what I’m saying.
Small caveat, the four big titles they just added along with the price reduction announcement are only going to be around until January.
