Twitch Streamer Destiny and an Economist Debate Capitalism, Achieve Nothing

There was a time when Destiny wasn’t so hated by the left. I remember his ‘debate’ with Jesse Lee Peterson got him noticed by lefty circles. Jesse Lee Peterson is a ridiculous figure, but there were some fantastic moments in those debates. One I think of, and one that reminds me that right wingers will CONSTANTLY manipulate data, is when Destiny catches a gun rights advocate with bringing in a gun deaths chart that Destiny correctly assumed the guns rights guy made himself. Those early debates had value in turning people away from the right, much like Contra did.

I remember when Zei_squirrel, one of the biggest left leaning voices on twitter, used to post him all the time in a positive light how he easily he destroyed right leaning arguments. But then at some point he just started turning against all these supporting voices.

I don’t know what it is about the guy, but he just likes burning bridges. Zei, Hasan, ANYONE he has associated with… One of the biggest ways I keep up with Destiny drama is just following LiveStreamFails on reddit, in which his posts are usually involving him getting the brunt of the drama or the defense.

I think it’s a monetary move. I think Destiny realizes that stirring up drama with ‘very online’ leftists gets him clicks and exposure, and it seems sociopathic, but it destroys any relationships he built with other streamers. From what I understand, a lot of people avoid him. Hasan won’t even talk about him on stream.

A very Glenn Greenwald of streamers fall from grace…

Destiny is a boring joke. There is nothing more to say imo.

I disagree entirely. I would love to be able to dismiss Destiny out of hand as a boring joke, but the fact of the matter is that he has an enormous and vocal audience, that he has had a demonstrable impact on the shape of modern political discourse on the internet, and that he’s a prominent part of the vanguard for liberalism.

He has influence. That’s the problem.
