Twitch has suspended the official account of the Trump campaign.
“Hateful conduct is not allowed on Twitch,” a Twitch spokesperson told VICE in an email. “In line with our policies, President Trump’s channel has been issued a temporary suspension from Twitch for comments made on stream, and the offending content has been removed.”
I thought the headline said Twitter and for a few seconds, I was excited.
Reddit has also closed /r/the_donald
Yeah, I was like “He posted on twitch?”
And /r/gendercritical - it’s like Xmas day
Along with /r/ChapoTrapHouse. Which is, like, I hate Chapo more than most probably but it’s darkly hilarious to even draw a comparison between the two subreddits.
Um, I’m sure there are a couple blue lives matter subreddits, are they still hanging around?

Alongside the change to the content policy, we are initially banning about 2000 subreddits, the vast majority of which are inactive. Of these communities, about 200 have more than 10 daily users. Both r/The_Donald and r/ChapoTrapHouse were included.
Unfortunately, the list is censored beyond the top 10, so it’s hard to tell if any “blue lives” subreddits are included. All I can say for sure is that there are three subreddits that start with “bl” on that list.
I bring it up, not because I care about the sanctity of Chapo’s reddit page, but because I’m pretty sure the impetus for the ban was saying all slave owners should have been killed
Everyone on the Chapo subreddit hates Chapo and I’m sure they were quarantined for celebrating the deaths of slave owners?
So looking at that list I have to wonder if there’s even a block list in place at all for naming a subreddit. They seem to have taken the Valve approach of not doing anything while having the ability to do something until it becomes to big for them to ignore.
Old news at this point (Saturday), but professional sack of shit Graham Linehan (aka Glinner) was permanently banned on twitter for being a transphobic hack.
Its actually really funny that its a suspension and not a ban because it carries the implied statement of “clean up your act and you can stay on our platform”
Glad to see all the companies finally taking a stand and putting the kibosh on trump when it really matters, when he’s almost out of office, popularity in free fall as he catastrophically mismanages crisis. Glad they all decided now that it looks like he’s on his way out they now can bravely take a stand!
Amazed I don’t see KotakuinAction or its explicitly white supremacist spin-off, KotakuinAction 2 on this list yet.
Guess I just need to give it time.
Even if you don’t like the podcast or its community, Reddit equivocating the CTH subreddit’s hard leftism with the_donald’s unfiltered bigotry is tech centrism at its most on-brand.
Also, this reads more as the major social media sites’ retaliation after they spent years looking the other way on his barely-dogwhistled hate speech, only for him to drop an executive order on them just because Twitter started putting meek fact-checks under his posts. The timing of them trying to clean up their image is more convenient than anything else.
I will give absolutely no benefit of the doubt to all of the primary social media sites, and assume any decision they make is done for cynical reasons.
Also years after most of The_Donald had migrated to new platforms or subreddits.
It has never made sense to me that the gamergate enthusiast subreddit has Kotaku - perhaps the most left-leaning games site save this one - as its namesake. Is it supposed to be ironic?
Presumably it’s mocking what they perceive to be Kotaku’s performative woke politics infesting their video games. “Oh look, here’s Kotaku in action again”
ETA: Wait, didn’t it literally start as a place to post screenshots of Kotaku supposedly living up to its stereotype?
Keep in mind that the initial spark that caused gamergate to be dubbed gamergate involved (and I stress that this was complete bullshit) the relationship between a game developer and a Kotaku reporter. So Kotaku got a lot of troglodyte vitriol as a consequence.
