Hey folks! The Waypoint Community Events Team are happy to unveil our first initiative.

Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat is putting together an event that spans a number of communities centered around the game Eco. The Waypoint crew is interested in taking part and they would like your assistance! A Twitter thread about the event can be found here: https://twitter.com/JeffGrubb/status/1080962280446021635

Live communication with players during the event will be taking place in the Waypoint Discord server. If you are interested in that message @M_o for an invite link. We will be hosting a raffle in the server to give out keys to those who wish to participate but don’t own a copy of the game.

An addendum to this, we will be hosting a raffle on the Waypoint Discord for a limited amount of copies of Eco for those that want to be part of the event but don’t have a copy of the game to play.

Heads up folks, we will be closing the Eco event survey in one day along with the raffle for our key giveaway (being hosted on the Waypoint Discord server) so if you have any interest in joining in and participating fill it out as soon as you can. If you aren’t able to make the deadline you will still be able to join afterwards by messaging the events team for assistance.

Here’s the info on how to join the server!

Please PM me or @Marcy for the server info if you don’t have it so we can avoid griefers!

How to download 8.0:

  • Open Steam (if you got a code for the SLG website, link your Steam account through the SLG account page).
  • Click on Eco in your library.
  • Select properties > Beta tab.
  • Put this in the password field: streampreview
  • Click “Check Code.”
  • From the drop down, select “Staging 8.0”
  • (It may require a Steam restart to work properly.)

(if you’re on the 8.0 beta it should be the only server that shows up for you under new worlds, once you uncheck “no password”. It might take a minute to show. If you have issues connecting, friend someone here on Steam & join the server by right clicking -> join game.)

Here’s some info for new players/where we are at!

If you want to join in, but are worried you won’t be able to help out, no problems! We live in a desert so logs are always needed, and you can start logging by about step 3 of the tutorial. Just head West from the spawn (press M) and open up the chat and join #Waypoint (press C) and let us know you’re new! We’ll get you set up with housing and food and let you know who needs what where!

  • If you’re logging, just keep two things in mind: a) pick up everything dropped by the tree, even if it takes multiple trips, and b) make sure to chop down the stump when you’re done. Both of those are to promote tree regrowth.

  • If you’re a new player try to stay away from smelting. It creates blocks of pollution that need to be handled in a specific way.

Updates, Updates, Updates!

So, first thing: the update earlier this morning made it so we can chop down cactus debris! Very helpful. If you haven’t already chopped down the cactus debris on your plots, please do so we can encourage natural regrowth!

Unfortunately, it also messed up houses a bit. Check and make sure your houses are giving you the right bonuses. If they aren’t, you can pick up and replace furniture and things should be fixed.

On the game side, we passed a law that creates a Demographic known as Waypoint Friends! This is now what we are using to denote and authorized shared-use items, plots, and more. To become a member, message/PM @quantumdot here or in-game, or icecreamjones or Moth?? in-game to get your 500 Moth?? Credit and become a member. (We just have to transfer you the credit; it’s open to anyone who is part of the WP community!)

Finally, we have a bridge thanks to the Jeff Grubb/RebelFM group that bridges their continent and ours. They’ve also built some roads west of us that are super-helpful!

Finally, if you don’t have furniture for your house, Appleguysnake has a distribution center in the commune that you can left-click on and get a starter set of furniture. Furniture in your home will increase your level-up speed, so it’s super helpful!

Farming update!

The plot where the seed stockpile used to be (455,880) has now been streamlined into a much more space efficient and organized seed storage space thanks to Shen, and a new farming table has been put down on the same plot (now renamed the Waypoint Agricultural Research Centre) free for anyone to use! As well, the seed autocraft for crimini and cookeina mushrooms, as well as agave and beets is now working as intended!

Are any of you folks live streaming/uploading archived streams of your gameplay? This is the sort of game that I’m absolutely pants at playing but love to watch!

I wasn’t planning on it, but the server crashed so I started working on this instead of going to sleep. I’m actually incredibly proud of our town! It feels almost as good as doing it in person, seeing all the random things that appear between visits just because someone realized we needed them is great.

Mo inspired me to start taking pics, but I don’t really leave the desert, so I figured I’d focus on the story of how our commune has built up so far and the little things that happened along the way! https://imgur.com/a/cygenXi

Hey folks, I went ahead and added signs near the contract board for us to keep track of both specialties we’re lacking in town currently, as well as materials and help on projects that we’re lacking. This will be good to use to keep track of where we’re at for folks who aren’t online at the same time! Feel free to reorganize the system into what works best for you.
