Lynda Carter was married to the late head of Bethesda for many years, so when they approached her about doing a video game her response was basically “hell yeah”
I remember looking into it a while ago, and she’s actually done several Elder Scrolls games as well, going back to Morrowind. ESO apparently cast her as Azura as well, which I didn’t know until I double-checked my recollection.
Destiny already had Lance Reddick who may have the best voice in the world.
However I want to call out Lennie James as Lord Shaxx in Destiny. When the first game came out, Shaxx was the crucible announcer and he had a more world weary tone that was reflective of Destiny 1.0 - just how Peter Dinklage brought a cold monotone to the voice of your Ghost. Shaxx came across quite mournful and preachy because from his perspective he’s overseeing Crucible as training for new Guardians and needs you everyone better against the over whelming threat posed against humanity. Victory wasn’t good enough, for he has to keep throwing guardians at the wall.
At the time, as with the game itself some people were unsure what to think of Shaxx as he was basically following up the announcer from Halo who had become iconic in his own right and reflected the silliness of matchmaking. Destiny 1.0 was definitely a different tone which Bungie moved away from for 2.0.
Shaxx is just this jolly mad man now, who gets way too excited when you pickup the power ammo or down somebody who’s just activated their super. I live to make Lord Shaxx proud and if I was working at Bungie, I’d be focusing very hard on delivering a Shaxx based campaign where after a night of heavy drinking at the tower, you wake up the next morning with some new alien menace hovering in the skies of all the biomes. The threat would be familiar to Shaxx and evidently was a result of your planet spanning antics the night before that you can’t quite remember. You then you have to work out how you and Shaxx created this new world ending scenario during this crazy night of partying. Basically the Hangover but with Lord Shaxx.
I spoke about it briefly on the Death Stranding thread but Troy Baker is having so much fun as Higgs that I find it really infectious. It was cool to hear someone who’s most known for something as self-serious as The Last of Us just cutting loose and being a cartoon villain especially when his villainous role in Miles Morales doesn’t quite hit for me.
Also shout out to Leonard Nimroy’s Xenahort which has a gruffness I really like in a villain.
Finally, it might be known for being bad and very amateurish but I love the voice acting in Final Fantasy X probably because it was the first game with full VA that I played but it’s very charming and comforting for me.
Ashley Burch gave a wonderfully textured performance in Life is Strange. Also big ups to the guy who played Sander Cohen in BioShock - just so much dark and campy fun. May the Wild Bunny roam free forever!
One of my favorite voice performances is in the Splinter Cell series
Voice of Sam Fisher & no, I never used video games to learn another language.
This is a hard choice for me to make as I have adored so many of the actors and actresses in our business over the years. I guess I would have to say that my favorite voice actor is Billy West. I was blown away by his talent when I heard him do Benny the Squirrel on the Ren & Stimpy Show. And then, I was taken aback when I heard him do the voice of Philip J. Fry on Futurama. He has proven that he is truly an amazing voice actor throughout his career and he has been able to portray a wide range of characters. I love Billy West and I hope that he can continue to be a part of new and exciting projects for years to come. So get more information from pro voice actor.
