The current crop of fantastic games that have been released was almost to overwhelming for me, I started two many games just to have to put them down because the next round of awesomeness hit. But i would have to say that Neir:Automata and Persona 5 take the cake in my most time played category. Plus i just got a 3ds to supplement my playing when i want to watch the news at home. So 3d platformers like kirbys’s robobot and strategy games like fire emblem awakenings have also been dabbled with.
I’ve kind of been going thorough a bit of a gaming crisis, in that I couldnt seem to find interest in any game I played for about two months. I’m finally getting back to my happy place with Farpoint, and I finally got my hands on a Switch, so I’m looking forward to playing Zelda. After that, I’ll probably go back and try to find some love for Nier, Prey, ME Andromeda, and a few others.
Still playing MarioKart multiplayer with the family, and also still into I Am Setsuna. But in the spirit of going between multiple games (something I have only started doing since getting the Switch) I have also started Disgaea 5 and Thumper.
I am confused by both in equal measure. Love the art style of D5 though (first one I have played in years) and Thumper has gripped me in a major way.
I’ve taken a break from Pesona 5 and I’m now playing Stellaris. I’m having a much easier time getting into this than I did Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis. It helps that I am starting with a small empire and slowly getting to know my surroundings instead of being in the middle of developed countries.
Mushroom 11 is an interesting little platformer. You basically destroy part of this blob and it grows back, making for some interesting movement controls. It reminds me somewhat of Gish in terms of being a physics driven platform game. Ultimately, the lack of precision here makes for a few unnecessarily frustrating parts and reminds me why this style of platforming doesn’t work for me.
7 Grand Steps is so simple, but I keep playing You play though generations as you try to push forward industry and your family status. All you do is allocate different coins to different slots to get more coins, to allocate to slots to pick up beads that help you progress to other tracks or get different coins and it’s just this vicious cycle that almost feels psychologically abusive and I’m not sure if I like it or not. The storytelling isn’t that great, but for some reason I’m still playing it.
Battleborn
League
Witcher 3
Rainbow 6 Siege
HotS
Dragon’s Dogma
Right now I’m cycling between Life is Strange, The Walking Dead Season 1, Final Fantasy 7 (second play through), KOTOR 2, Dishonored, and possibly This War of Mine and Thief 2.
Those are too many good games. How do you even choose!?
Switching between Titanfall 2, Overwatch, inFAMOUS: Second Son, and Life is Strange.
inFAMOUS: This is definitely a great PS4 exclusive. I love flying around Seattle and just beating up every D.U.P. soldier in my way. Delsin is a entertaining character too, even if he isn’t that complex. It helps that Seattle looks amazing while exploring. This is my 2nd playthrough, so I’m playing the evil side of the story now.
Life is Strange: I’m currently in the middle of Ep. 2. The setting and the story are great, although there are some obvious writing problems. Ep. 1’s lines were mostly corny (“Now you’re totally stuck in the Retro Zone. Sad face.”) which made me have a more negative feeling about the episode. Thankfully, Ep. 2’s writing is better, with only some corny lines (“Amazeballs. I literally just got chills all over my neck”, “That was beyond epic fail”). The characters are mostly good, but Victoria seems too stereotypical. I want to see more of Chloe’s stepdad, her mom also, and the janitor later on.
Dipped my toes into Rise of Nations, Age of Empires II and III, and Age of Mythology. I used to play them a lot when I was growing up and I felt like going on a nostalgia trip. They’re good fun, and I like to play them as a sort of city-builder rather than actual real time strategies.
Been playing Dragon Age: Inquisition on and off for the past few months. I really like what it’s doing and it makes for a good podcast game when you’re just grinding out quests. It’s kinda fallen victim to me burning out and not finishing games, but I hope to return to it again.
I’m a goddamn machine
Well, my girlfriend and I have this thing we do to spend time together, where at the end of the day we hop on Discord and talk while we go through our separate backlogs.
She’s playing through BioShock for the first time while I’m playing Final Fantasy XIII.
I’m about 14 hours in at this point and man oh man, it does NOT trust the player AT ALL.
I have more thoughts about it that, once I’m done with the game, I’ll write up a thread to post here if anyone else wants to go more in depth with me on it.
Right Now Persona 5 is my go-to, although I find myself enjoying the dungeon grind more than the social stuff, but maybe that’s just me?
Also been trying to get into Guilty Gear Xrd now that I have a fightstick. I like the look of it a lot more than SFV, but the more meta stuff is still beyond me.
Lastly, whenever I have a lot of downtime at work, I’ll crack open my netbook (yes I know), and play some of the remaster of Planescape Torment. The slow pace of that game makes sense for my job, where I’m just waiting around for people to give me stuff to work on. I feel like I’d never play it if I only could play it at home.
While still chipping away on Phantom dust I have taken up Gwent which is really fun i loved playing Gwent in the Witcher 3 so more of that great and all the voice acting is fun as well and still playing Pubg
Been playing Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge again. I want to actually experience the various storylines and experiment more with different playstyles. Unfortunately, I keep on getting back to my habits in terms of playstyles and I’m not really too sure what are good alternatives.
Still finishing up Breath of the Wild (101 shrines) and plugging away at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Forza Horizon 3 for a nice little racing-duo.
I just played Anatomy by Kitty Horrorshow. Playing it was miserable the first couple of times, but I ended up getting creeped the fuck out and it was interesting for me (who avoids horror and thriller stuff as a general rule). It was a wonderful way to spend an hour.
I am looking through Kitty Horrorshow’s stuff because I’ve been playing Miseria Cantat and I’m fascinated by it and I’m trying to figure out why. Kitty Horrorshow uses similar tricks and atmospheres.
I’m just getting into Suikoden, and boy oh boy I think this is what I’ve been looking for since Ogre Battle 64. Characters I love, battle that’s fine, lots of political background, and (at least seemingly) interesting decisions.
Bloodborne.
Only Bloodborne.
A month or so ago I polled Waypoint about which Soulsborne I should pick up between Bloodborne or Dark Souls 2. Results were firmly in support of Bloodborne and I bought it shortly after.
I really dig it. I’ve been trying to articulate what exactly I like about the game to a friend and as best as I can describe it is like the game is doing everything to teach me it’s language and every step I take towards learning that language takes me deeper into the game. And it speaks to the player everywhere, with its enemies, its environments, and its game play. Lots of games have this aspect, of requiring the player to learn its language, but Bloodborne does a great job of making all the ways the game speaks to the player reinforce and riff off each other.
It’s really fun to explore and see all those layers if interaction come together.
I’ve got a good deal through the game and just had my first really unsettling scene. I found a suspicious looking dude in the middle of nowhere, hanging out with some corpses.
He asked for help and I sent him back to my “home base” with other people I’ve (hopefully) rescued. I go to leave the room he’s in and find a tin of messages from other players saying not to trust this guy, that he’s bad, etc.
After deliberating, I decide to go back and kill him before he returns to my base and wreaks havoc on my friends(?). Positioning myself behind him I wound up for a backstab. He fell instantly…
…and transformed into a massive, thunder beast that taunted me and killed me. I don’t remember what it said as it transformed but it was genuinely unnerving. I returned immediately to kill it, glad I took the direction of other players and didn’t let it unleash back home.
But now I’m questioning everyone. Who else is hiding a gigantic thunder monster? Or worse?
I’ve started in on Valkyria Chronicles for the first time and Loving it.
