One of my favorite gags of all time is the bit in The Simpsons when one of the Mafia guys sees Krusty standing next to Homer dressed as Krusty and says…
It’s just such an elegant setup of an expected punchline followed by an immediate twist away from that punchline.

Three things:
An unexpected person-slipping-on-a-banana-peel gag will destroy me every time. I bought Keiichi Arawi’s (Nichijou) Helvetica Standard Bold last year and one of the first strips in it is a Judo player getting KO’d by a banana peel and I found it so funny that I have yet to open the book again.
There’s a Pop Team Epic strip where the girls are recording a Vine and when put on the spot to do something funny Popuko starts reciting a rakugo performance. When the books got published in English that bit was changed so that she starts reciting The Divine Comedy instead and that’s such a good localization of the original and like 10x funnier to me.
