What's your favorite game on each console you own?

#1

I’ve been seeing a lot of people I follow on Twitter for gaming tweets (there’s gotta be a better word than that whole phrase) posting their takes on this tweet recently and I’m interested to know what the Waypoint community says about theirs. This is mine:

NES: RC Pro Am
SNES: Super Mario World
N64: Wave Race 64
GC: Tony Hawk 3
Wii: Wii Sports Resort
Switch: Sonic Mania
GB: Dr. Mario
GBC: Wario Land 3
GBA: Klonoa 2
DS: Mario Kart DS
3DS: Mario Kart 7
PSX: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
PS2: NCAA Football 06
PSP: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
PSV: Tearaway
XB: NFL 2K5
XB360: Skate 3
XBONE: AER: Memories of Old
SMS: Zillion
SG: Another World
SCD: Sonic CD
32X: Virtua Racing Deluxe
SGG: Mortal Kombat
Saturn: Sega Rally Championship
Dreamcast: Chu Chu Rocket

What I learned from this exercise is that I owned a PSP for years and never really had a game I loved for it and that the console I had to debate with myself upon the most was the 32X, apparently. I’m interested to see your lists!

I’m not gonna list the same game twice, since then all my responses would be the same 3 games over and over.

PS2: Persona 4
PSP: The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky
PS3: Dark Souls
PSV: Spelunky
3DS: Box Boy
DS game that I played on 3DS since I don’t have a DS: Professor Layton and the Curious Village
PS4: Hitman
PC: Need For Speed High Stakes

@JoeBush The phrase you are looking for is “gaming twitter”. You’ve been seeing a lot of responses to this tweet on gaming twitter.

I was trying to narrow it down to just one for each, but then was like “eh, nobody cares anyways, so why not just accept that some are more than one, without ditching the apparent goal of celebrating good games over the years.”)

Current PC (Built 2013): Dark Souls, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine,
Last PC (Built 2007): Darksiders, Left 4 Dead 2,
PC Before that (Laptop 2004): World of Warcraft
Family PC Before That (1995-1997?): Brood War, Diablo 2, Half-Life
First PC (Family, I’d guess 1993?): Chip’s Challenge,
Android: Camera. (This is 98% of what I use the phone for. It’s like an AR share-with-friends game.)
PS4: Destiny (The Taken King.), Bloodborne
Xbox: Halo. (Assault on the Control Room if we want to be more specific.), Blood Wake, Crimson Skies.
Gameboy: Operation-C (Was an early Contra, and handled the inability to save better than the Mario I had, where getting to zone 4 was infrequent and exciting enough, while fast enough to happen a fair bit that it didn’t get as stale as fast as hitting zone 11 or 13, and just running out of time regularly.)

#7

Game Boy: Pokemon R/G/B
Nintendo 64: Mario 64
Gamecube: Metroid Prime
Wii: Mario Galaxy
PlayStation 2: Final Fantasy X (ask me another day and I might say MGS2, it’s toss up)
PlayStation 3: Valkyria Chronicles
PlayStation 4: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
PlayStation Portable: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Xbox (don’t own anymore…): Ninja Gaiden Black (sorry Panzer Dragoon Orta)
Xbox 360 (broken): Bayonetta

I just realized that for the past 15 years, for most of the time I’ve been either too poor, or just not interested enough, to buy any consoles.

Amiga (technically it was my brother’s): Venus: The Flytrap
Game Boy: Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
NES: Kirby’s Adventure
SNES: Secret of Mana
PSX: Sheep Dog n’ Wolf
PS2: Dark Chronicle
Wii: Super Mario Galaxy
3DS: Kirby Planet Robobot
PC: Baldur’s Gate
Phone: Super Hexagon

#9

PC: Gone Home
PS4: Journey
WiiU: MarioKart 8??? 10??? Whatever the latest one is
3DS: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Phone: Monument Valley

#10

NES: boulder dash. even though I’m really bad at it (I’m scared… of everything)
SNES: tetris attack. yeah secret of mana owns but god damn. tetris attack. (suddenly remembers zelda) oh HECK no okay tetris attack is a more interesting answer.
N64: banjo-kazooie. it’s better than sm64, don’t @ me.
Wii: uhhhh fire emblem radiant dawn (I just didn’t want to say mario because, like, obviously mario, right)
PlayStation: FFIX. it’s the best one! maybe I’ll finish it some day!
PS2: yeah okay persona 4.
Game Boy: wario land 2. branching paths! no death! this game is incredible, honestly.
Game Boy Advance: golden sun. the things I would do for a fourth golden sun game don’t bear thinking about
DS: elite beat agents. I love rhythm games and if it weren’t for crypt of the necrodancer this would likely be my favourite one.
3DS: the legend of zelda: a link between worlds. okay here’s me making up for not saying link to the past on snes - it’s that again! but better, probably.

my playstation answers are boring because I haven’t played many playstation/2 games I guess

I wonder… apologize for getting on a tangent but all those past selves that owned those consoles had different tastes than me, how do you choose a favorite? Are we remembering in the context of our past or current ? Probably past, since memories of emotions are bundled in there with everything else.
It’s easy when a system keeps track of all the data for you:

Hmm

SNES Link To The Past
N64, uhh every N64 game I have gone back to is kinda bad but I’ll just say Mischief Makers to make Navster happy
PS1 is Final Fantasy Tactics by a long shot
Gamecube I’ll say the Fire Emblem game
PS2 Okami a game I am not vouching for holding up in anyway to be clear
GB pokemon Silver
GBA is tricky I’m going to say either Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced or Tactics Ogre The Knight Of Lotus
PSP Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
DS The World Ends With You
PS3 I might say the Last Of Us or Demon’s Souls
360 I never owned one but played the PC version of Viva Pinata so I’ll cheat and list that
3DS Etrian Untold 2 The knight offddasdkjlhgkjabdfvkbaelkrbgajfbdjab kjeafbgjkeasrg
PS4 Bloodborne
Xbox One, I own one of these and have only played Dark Souls III on it

And PC has too many games to count honestly

#16

I had my buddy over to play stuff on my SNES classic after loading it with 50 amazing games, but we just ended up playing Tetris Attack for 3 hours. So, yeah. Testing indicates that game is the best.

#17

it’s the BEST - I also have a nice little story about it I posted in another thread: What’s The Best Gift You’ve Ever Given/Received?

(I made the mistake of letting him see me play before offering to play against each other though… he’d never stand a chance.)

This was fun!

I was thinking a lot about console obsolescence when making this. So in some cases I’m putting two favorites for a system. The first is my favorite game I have for the system.

The second is my favorite that is truly 100% exclusive to that system. No ports, remake, or virtual console port, you got to emulate or copy a disk, find a fan-made source port, or get the some actual hardware/software to play it.

•3DO- Twisted!
•3DS- Shin Megami Tensei IV
•Dreamcast- Shenmue II / Illbleed
•DS- Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey / Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
