Snatcher is my jam of all jams. I’ve been dying for a remaster, but in all honesty, it feels like the chances dropped to zero when Kojima exited Konami.

I haven’t even played Snatcher really and I may end up buying the Vinyl set
While we’re on the subject, here’s my pitch for a new Snatcher game.
It’s an open-world survival-horror game. Exploration, puzzle solving, evidence gathering and interrogation remain the focus. When a violent conflict break out, the game switches to play more like a third person shooter, albeit one in which the player character, is killed very easily. The player can draw guns at any time, however, killing civilians results in a harsh penalty to the player, since the player character works for the police.
In between the main story mission, the player must complete smaller crimes involving Snatchers. These crimes work in a pseudo-random way: any person involved in the case might be a Snatcher, and who in fact is the Snatcher changes on different playthroughs. These investigations carry a lot of tension: when talking to a suspect, or even investigating at the same place where a suspect is at the same time as the player, at any moment a Snatcher might burst out of the suspect’s skin. Waiting too long and allowing the Snatcher to reveal itself on its own can prove fatal, as Snatchers kill the player much fast then the player can kill them. At the same time, attacking a suspect too hastily can compromise the case if the suspect turns out to be normal human.
As well, several Snatchers roam whatever map the player is located at during a given time. Some Snatchers are disguised in random passersby on the sidewalk or criminals in alleyways, or even street vendors. When a Snatcher initially spawns, however, they are naked, and must find a host to disguise themselves inside. The player can gain an advantage if he uses environmental clues to get the drop on naked Snatchers and so prevent them from taking their targeted hosts. When a Snatcher disguised in a human attacks the player, it must expose itself and destroy its disguise. If the player damages the Snatcher enough, the Snatcher will sometime flee and seek a new host in a random NPC in order to ambush the player. Some naked Snatchers spot the player before they find a host and try to attack while undisguised. These Snatchers hide in shadows, following the player all over the streets, running along rooftops and climbing fire escapes and pipes, which the player can climb as well. All activities in this outdoor, hub area occur with the constant risk of a Snatcher attacking the player.
…I pitch this game with the full knowledge that it will never be made.
Snatcher is a great leadoff choice. I have to nominate The Guardian Legend. A little bit Compile shooter, a little bit Zelda, a little bit Bubblegum Crisis in the character design. I’d love to see what a modern developer like Yacht Club or Heart Machine could do with this.
I’ve been fruitlessly awaiting the announcement of a new Jade Empire for literal years. One of the problems with being a weird janky middle child game, released between two incredibly successful games from Bioware (KOTOR and Mass Effect) is that nobody cares enough for a sequel to happen. Bummer bummer, but I’ll still make the “This is the year!” joke on twitter every EA E3 press conference.
Man I would absolutely kill for a new Snatcher. Or, even just a way to easily play Snatcher on a modern machine.
Journeyman Project, remake or sequel, I don’t care, just anything new and shiny in that universe.
Golvellius ended with a ‘to be continued’ screen. Still waiting on that sequel. The game was even re-released on iPhone in 2009.
Yeah I just saw that! At this point I’d be content with an emulated release but the state of Saturn emulation is pretty bad. PDS is mostly playable in SSF though. And yeah, compounding the lack of a re-release with a pricetag that is climbing up to $500 is…bad.
I never got the chance to play Snatcher when it was released, so I’d love some kind of modern remaster/re-release.
The two games I’d love to see a re-master or re-release are Jet Set Radio Future and the Blade Runner game released by Westwood. The fact the original Jet Set Radio was re-released on PC and consoles years ago but Future is still stuck on older platforms is a damm shame.
Blade Runner is just dying for GOG to save from obscurity. I still have my copy of the game (on it’s 4 discs) but with every newer version of Windows, it’s getting harder and harder to play.
I would love to play a revamped Ogre Battle 64, but I just don’t think the game play is exciting enough for today’s gamer. Then again, people still like Fire Emblem, and there is even less freedom there. But I think Fire Emblem succeeds on like 50% nostalgia, and not nearly as many people played Ogre Battle. But it was derfinitelt my favorite N64 game, and I will crack into it any time I have the opportunity.
I never got to play Snatcher, but I remember looking at screenshots in magazines back in the 90s and thinking that it looked amazing. As far as games I would like to see revived and modernized, I would love to see what could be done with ActRaiser.
