Why isn't it called Spla2n? - Splatoon 2 thread

After you complete certain goals in the new single player area you can play as an Octoling online. I believe it is just a cosmetic difference though. Not sure if there is anything beyond that being offered with the DLC but for me the new characters and music alone are more than worth it.

Ah, thanks! I was wondering if there would be a use for the credits beyond the underground.

I had no stake whatsover in the TMNT contest last month, but this month’s splatfest theme has me amped up. Who’s going to be competing?

#TeamPulp

Yeah the TMNT theme was frustrating when Japan got Sanrio. I’m pretty indifferent to orange juice, but I’ll go team Marina and team green when it comes down to it~

I also didn’t care about TMNT but not this time!! I am 100% team pulp and all these no-pulp cowards are just afraid of the REAL JUICE EXPERIENCE!!!

I may not have a ton of time during the splatfest to actually play since I am moving soon but I will try my best to defend the honor of The Real Juice.

give me the boneless orange juice

There’s an extra boss in the Octo Expansion if you clear all 80 levels, and it’s a really harrowing 5-round test of your 1v1 skills. The item you get for it is kinda nice, but don’t bother if you’re struggling to get past the first round or two because it just gets tougher from there.

Also, the Octo-fro goes well with everything.

When I cleared the main objective of Octo Expansion I swore I wouldn’t go back. Yet every day I find myself there on the train again, slowly opening up more stations. I’m curious to SEE what that final boss has in store, but I’m already brought to tears by so many of these challenges… we’ll see.
The Octoling hairstyles are so very very good. Allowing the fro to squish and reshape depending on the head gear is super satisfying.

Any good Discord communities? I joined one for the splatfest but it has no particular content guidelines and devolved into edgelord opinions on politics very quickly

I moderate the AUNZ Splatoon discord, but we welcome folks from all over the globe too. Most of the folks are from AUNZ of course so discussion happens around our timezones. Link is here if you’re interested: https://discord.gg/ru6sKRr

If you’re interested in becoming competitive/otherwise interested in improving as a player, this is a good server: https://discord.io/inkademy
I can’t vouch for how edgelord that one can be, since I don’t hang around there often, but if you want to just dip in and out to ask for high-level advice, that’s the place to be.

the TMNT splatfests were everything I ever wanted and Donnie winning was a fluke. please @ me.

I missed Pulpfest b/c I was travelling, but i’m REAL unhype for the fucking octo vs ink splatfest, so i’ll probably play salmon run through the whole thing

Donnie is the worst turtle, so it’s less of a fluke and more just the nature of NA/EU Splatfests going against popularity at this point. :frowning: I’m probably gonna sit this next one out too. The Pearl/Marina dialogue was about as friendly as I could hope for, but I’m still not especially comfortable with the concept, and the community response has been predictably gross. Glad I don’t really need snails.

I will not stand for this slander of Donatello. The best ninja turtle by far!

My assessment of Donnie is, admittedly, based only on the first half of season 1 of TMNT 2012, where Donnie was an awful tech bro nice guy any time April was within 300 feet of him. But I think that’s as solid a reason as any. Mikey forever.

Mikey’s almost always a close second, but in the original series Donatello was more smart and cool as hell with a staff. Leonardo and Raph are always tied for worst, though.

Congratulations to Squids, canonically the better… I don’t want to finish this sentence the splatfest theme was weiiiird.

I didn’t get much chance to play this weekend sadly, and when I was online I ended up only having one squid-octo matchup? I did win so I guess my splatfest contribution was 100% Octo but otherwise I was grinding in Octo-Octo games…

i didn’t really do shit for this match and only got three snails. it just wasn’t a topic i could get that excited for.

In the past, my friend list has more or less followed the trend of overall popularity (you can check your friends’ allegiances in the mobile app). However this time there was a very marked departure from what my friends chose, and the winner of the popular contest. My friend list was 2:1 in favour of squids, and more interestingly due to the larger sample size, a popular competitive player ran a poll that was 3:2 in favour of squids, with several thousand votes counted. I imagine this meant that for whatever reason, players that skewed more towards the competitive side chose squid in much larger numbers, but the general playerbase leaned towards octos.

My internet sadly won’t be installed in time for the penultimate fest but… who’s excited for Splatocalypse?

I haven’t played this game in maybe 9 months but I’m ready to pick it up and send it off in style.

I’m going to try to be on there for at least an hour or so. I still pop into the game every week or two to play a few games, and it’s still really enjoyable. I wish I had some friends that also played the game, but I don’t know anybody that owns any consoles outside of the internet. Even with randoms and no communication it’s been a great experience. I’m looking forward to whatever they do for the next one.

So I guess count me in for team chaos.

Very excited for the Splatocalypse, although I am still a little sad that splatfests are coming to an end. I am glad that they are adding Shifty Stations to private battles, although that isn’t very helpful for people who don’t have the community to play in private battles often.
