Why isn't it called Spla2n? - Splatoon 2 thread

A call for help here, ya’ll. I really want to try Splatoon, but I’m also really uncomfortable jumping in without some understanding of the meta and tactics. Anyone have any good resources to learn basics about the game and expected strategies?

Nice to be playing Splatoon again. Some of my impression on the new stuff. The Splat Dualies are pretty nice. While their similar to the standard Splattershot but with shorter range, they allow for wider coverage having two aim sights and the roll move works well with side stepping straight shots. Tenta Missiles are good when they hit but are pretty easy to avoid as long as you have room to move. However, another way to use them is to make players move so they can be pick off by your team. That one dome level was interesting as it was kinda flat but the different in hill sizes allow for sneak attacks and usable lookouts.

It’s really hard to find good guides for Splatoon since there is no centralised hub that is frequented by many players. There is the squidboards forum, but not many high level players actually go there so there is a shortage of good guides. I suppose you can start browsing https://squidboards.com/guides/?order=rating_weighted and see if any of them work for you; I can’t vouch for any of them.

Thanks! I’ll start there

I really wish the US got the Splatoon 2 bundle.

I didn’t really enjoy yesterday’s Splatfest. The wait times in between matches was pretty long, hopefully that’s not the case for the full game. The down time was nearly as long as the matches themselves.

I don’t know, I only had wait problems when it started but during the 30 min mark matchmaking was smooth on average. Well it is a testfire so it possible they were checking how matchmaking was working.

I loved the first Splatfest, too bad my team lost. I’m looking forward to collecting a full wardrobe of cool clothes when the full game comes out so I can kick ass in style.

I saw plenty of amazing pics from Americans too. I don’t understand how some of those are made!

takes me about 30 seconds on average to find a match in Splatoon 1 even to this day; the test-fire match making times were definitely unusually long. How did you find the game itself between all the waiting?

I used to gently browse The Dreaded Reddit when i played the first game a lot and found it actually super helpful/not very toxic at all so that might also be a good shout!

Splatoon brings out the worst in me but I had a really great time.

The muscle memory from 170 hours of the original really screwed me over though…

Right up to the end I kept accidentally opening the map!

Pretty much exclusively played Dualies. Wanted to achieve something resembling proficiency with them (and they suit my play style the best).

Was 1 point away from Ice Cream Queen which was devastating, but, hey, we still won!

I have it on order as enjoyed the few rounds I played during the open weekends a month or so back. My game-time has just become massively limited though so I do wonder if I will quickly find myself behind the times skill-level wise and just get my ass handed to me each time I manage to boot the game up. We’ll see.

I’m sad I don’t get to play the pre-launch Splatfest stuff as I ordered the Spla2n Switch bundle (so it doesn’t arrive until the 21st). I can barely wait for it, though - in case me buying a new console for it doesn’t make that clear enough!

All the Spl2n talk is making me want to get a Switch, I played a lot of the original Splatoon and loved it. I never got into the super serious level of play though, were people were comparing stats and getting optimal dps and whatnot. The game was still super fun without worrying about that. Mostly I just wanted to look cool.

I wasn’t planning to get a switch for a while since there are’t any games I really want that are exclusive, but this might push me over. Though, switches are out of stock everywhere anyway so maybe its a nonissue

Hoping this game has a nice single player mode since I didn’t play the first game and want a smooth entry without having to dive straight into the competition.

A competitive multiplayer shooter on a handheld that is great feels WEIRD and wonderful.

I dove into Splatoon months after it came out and I will say that because they apparently match you with players that have similar experience levels, it wasn’t too bad to get into competitive multiplayer. Not sure how that will go with Splat2n due to people having experience from the prior game, though. Hopefully a lot of new people are hopping onto the franchise with this game.

It’s been said a thousand times before, but the lack of communication options to allow others to call me out on my bad play is a real relief and the main reason I was able to get into the first game.
