Why isn't it called Spla2n? - Splatoon 2 thread

Thanks for the replies, definitely can’t ignore the turf aspect even in ranked. There are games that I feel like my team and I won solely because I ran ahead and inked over the Tower’s track towards their base.

P.S why is the Splatling so good LOL?

Hey so Nintendo is doing another Splatoon 2 World Championship at E3! Qualifiers for US/Canada is taking place in a few weeks; with the winners getting trips to E3 to participate in the World Championship: https://e3.nintendo.com/splatoon-2-inkling-open/

AUNZ is also holding qualifiers: https://2018splatoon2cup.com.au/, while I believe the European Championship is down to its top 16 teams and Japan’s representative has already been chosen.

Also Spoke which splatling are you talking about? Mini/Heavy/Hydra? I’m quite partial to the Mini (especially the Zink branded variant that was released recently)

Bringing this thread back because the Octo Expansion is here and it’s exactly what I wanted out of Splatoon’s single player in the first place. Just quick, straight track, creative, varied levels with no time wasted peeking behind every last bit of the environment for collectibles. The train is so cute, i love finding a new line and poking its fucked up inhabitants. And the Pearl/Marina chats are just so gay. I’m so so so into this. Anyone else out there finding those thangs?

Yes! Can’t wait. I was refreshing for updates all day yesterday until I saw it wasn’t hitting until the evening. Will be checking it out shortly. The subway, new characters, new levels all look very very good~~~~

Really enjoying the chat logs and the little poems you get for beating a level, super neat stuff

LOVING all the passengers that get on and off the train. And the music! But boy howdy are some of these challenges hard: “survive without any weapon for 30 seconds while standing exposed on this platform and getting shot at from every direction”.
it’s great

I genuinely fucking hate the CQ system, especially since Pearl just gives you more if you run out, making it a completely pointless stressor in this mode.

Ooooohhh, I haven’t hit any issues of running out of the credits, but I’ve also just been going to different challenges if I don’t clear one right away.

I’ve finally gotten it into my head that I can just like, let Marina hack the level for me if I’m having trouble and there’s no shame in that, but there are some levels where I keep trying because I get so close, or I have the feeling I can do it if I only had a different weapon.

Octo Expansion is a real problem for me with sunken costs, where I put so much effort and get so far into a level that I may as well retry from the last check point, right? Compounded to this is the fact that you can’t switch weapons once you’ve gone past the gate, so if you get into the level and then realise “oh this is a bad weapon for me here”, there’s no way to preemptively ollie out just to switch weapons without paying the fee again.

My logic here is that the game gives credits for finishing the level, for hacking it, and you get them from C.Q. Cumber for discovering new lines. If you run out, Pearl gives you more CQ. In return, a restart costs the same as entering, and you pay to enter each level.

At that point, why even have the CQ system at all?

At the moment I have enough CQ credits that I haven’t had any problem but I can see it becoming a source of anxiety as I try more difficult challenges. Does Marina make it possible to skip levels or does she just give you more credits to retry?

She lets you skip the levels, but in exchange, you don’t get a real mem cake, and if you want the real one you have to retry.

Interesting, is it conceivable to skip all the levels just to get access to these new Octoling skins? It seemed a little mean to only offer the Octolings to highly skilled players but make them visible to everyone in the online matches, in the hub, etc.

All you need to get the Octoling is to get all four thangs and beat the final level. Doesn’t matter if they’re hacked or not I think?

Oh, also you do go into debt if you fuck up too many times and need a loan. It’s fucked up.

Cool, thanks! I’m glad the credits are meaningless, but would also like for them to just go away then? I guess it’s only meaningful if you want to restart from a specific checkpoint?

After finishing the expansion, you can spend credits to get random small amounts of chunks/tickets/money. So they’re not meaningless, but not really meaningful either.

Love me some Splatoon, in all this E3 madness I completely forgot this was even out. Is it just new single player levels? Does it do anything different?

After you complete certain goals in the new single player area you can play as an Octoling online. I believe it is just a cosmetic difference though. Not sure if there is anything beyond that being offered with the DLC but for me the new characters and music alone are more than worth it.

Ah, thanks! I was wondering if there would be a use for the credits beyond the underground.

I had no stake whatsover in the TMNT contest last month, but this month’s splatfest theme has me amped up. Who’s going to be competing?

#TeamPulp

Yeah the TMNT theme was frustrating when Japan got Sanrio. I’m pretty indifferent to orange juice, but I’ll go team Marina and team green when it comes down to it~
