Why isn't it called Spla2n? - Splatoon 2 thread

It was drawn to my attention in a conversation last night that the transition from turf war to the various ranked modes may not be smooth for many. Of course, people are free to only ever play the turf war mode, though I do find the ranked modes to be more interesting and hold my attention better. The person I conversed with expressed that they thought the unranked/ranked modes should have parity in the modes, and to an extent I do agree. However, the matchmaking is good enough that you can spend the first few matches in a new mode just figuring things out with other newbies, and now that the different modes track separate ranks, you’ll be able to play around in them without worrying too much.

Anyway, as an S rank player from Splatoon, and a follower of its competitive scene, feel free to ask me any kind of question you have about the game and hopefully I should be able to help you out  The waypoint discord has a new channel dedicated for Splatoon talk, so I’ll be hanging out around in there too!

After my performance in the Splatfest I don’t ever see myself making it to S Rank in Splatoon 2.

It was already nightmarish getting/staying there in Splatoon.

I’m shaking just thinking about it!

It does have a single player mode, which is designed to teach you how the various weapons work as well as the basics of movement.

It’s a platformer/shooter and it’s wonderful.

The boss fights in the first game were also a sight to behold.

I’m hearing it’ll be around 6 hours or so again in length, with more/harder secrets to find in each level.

Yeah a few of the Waypoint and Bombcast guys have been mentioning the single player mode is good (as I guess no-one is really on the mp servers yet). Highly likely the single player will be my main focus due to life stuff so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah, wasn’t sure what this year’s single player would entail. More of the same or maybe a little bit more to dive into. No matter, 6 hours of being able to get better at a game in a more controlled environment works for me.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR SOME SPLA2N

I’ve been watching people play it and like man, I cannot WAIT to pick it up. It looks to be really fun and I missed out on the first one, so I will be jumping into this one.

It has arrived! Will try some at lunchtime, single player I guess as doubt anyone else is really online yet.

Actually very excited.

I’m assuming you got the physical version? Does anyone know what time the digital version is released? I’m surprised I can’t preorder it on the eShop.

Yes it is the physical version. I am about 50/50 between physical and digital games on the Switch currently. Just depends on the price really. I don’t think they do digital pre-orders, do they? I had MarioKart on pre-order but that was via Amazon and they sent me a code.

I spent lunchtime in an underground world trying and failing to paint a sequence of balloons within a time limit. I must have looked a right wally in the cafe wafting the Switch around. Still, it was good fun.

Curious how many New Yorkers will I see on trains and cafe playing Spla2n. Hoping my Gamestop I have my pre-order in will allow me to get it early like how I got my P5.

Looked around online and saw articles saying it would be available online at midnight.

It should be available at midnight for your region; I think West Coast USA will be able to get it 9PM tonight since it’ll be midnight on the East Coast by that time. Happy splatting folks!!

Yup, can confirm - I got my Switch today and the code didn’t work when I tried to put it in the first time. Just entered it again now (2AM UK time) and it’s good to go! Very much looking forward to it, though I’ll save it for the morning…

Did a few of the single player missions this morning. They actually seem quite long? But maybe that’s because I spent ages faffing around recharging the ink etc and I am sure any half decent gamer would do all that stuff far quicker.

I am finding the controls tricky, but am forcing myself to keep at it as although I have a pro controller my time in front of an actual TV to use it will be tiny compared to lunchtimes etc at work when I will be using the ā€œnormalā€ controllers.

We gone too far!

That is amazing. Is there some site that lets you create images that are then transferred to the Switch? Or are artist that good they’re meticulously taking their time to be pixel perfect with their creations?

I almost made the jump into it on the WiiU but after the demos for Splatoon 2, I finally went in on this. I’m loving the game so far even though all I’ve done is some art, and got to level 6 in the regular battles. I look forward to trying to story levels too. It was actually a Let’s Play of the story levels (along with multiplayer with every weapon) from Chuggaaconroy that sold me on the concept, so I’m actually pretty excited to see the story of the sequel.

Stop worrying, just jump in. You’ll get the hang of it. It’s a nintendo game after all.

Y’all Salmon Run is DOPE. It really requires focused teamwork and can get pretty intense. It’s basically a horror game when you get promoted a few times, so maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the atmosphere in it a lot.

Does anyone know how the Splatoon 2 lobby art works in terms of sharing:…

  • Do you have to share to Facebook or Twitter for it to be accepted into the Splatoon 2 Lobby server?
  • Are they region locked (i.e. if I post an image from my EU account, can it only be seen by EU players)?
  • Does it have a preference for/against players you are friends with or have played with (I know recently played appear in the lobby, but I’ve yet to see them with art)?

Seeing a couple people streaming the game (or just tweeting about it) from the US and I’ve yet to see images that appear frequently in my lobby. Thanks if you do know (trying to look it up only lead to talk of game servers region locking or the art feature announcement).
