Dev/Tech Support for a finance Web App and working towards my Biology degree. Help.

I do IT for a pharmaceutical supplier, we buy drugs from big evil corporations and sell them to pharmacies. It’s a very chill job between projects as there’s relatively few users but we need to replace some decades old software which will take around 2 years to do.

My boss is great and I like the people I work with so I have no complaints really

I work for the Canadian government in international development. In practise I manage a web portal, so it’s kind of like a third tier account/tech support I guess? My day-to-day is so different from a support agent, and I deal with a lot of people in the international dev community. It can be a challenging job at times, but I’d say I enjoy it overall.

I have one account person who I answer to for each client, and than there are two people who head up the editorial department who are my nominal superiors.

It works okay for the most part, but time management and project prioritization can be exciting.

I am two exams away from graduating with a degree in Film and Literature at age 29. I support my loan with a very boring job where I sign people up to store their things in a cool vault, but it gives me lots of freedom to browse the c y b e r w e b. I have written freelance once or twice, but I am totally struggling to find the time for that and I have no idea what to do!

im a patent and trademark secretary which is like, fine. its easy and sometimes interesting and literally everyone who works in IP is a fucking weirdo so you get some good characters.

That’s cool. Do you all have like a Project Manager or someone to help with that?

As a Program Manager I’m over 4 staff. It’d be interesting if they worked with other people as well, as we work very closely every day and a lot of the foundation is those relationships. Recently I’ve been trying out forming a sort of scrum team where I’m facilitating the team’s progress rather than telling people what to do. Not always possible, but I prefer that for sure.

Work talk, yeah!!

I wish!

Most accounts have a senior partner who it ā€œbelongs toā€ but they’re typically pretty hands off unless somebody comes into the office and needs buttering up. Only our really big accounts have project managers, for the most part it’s Account Associate and Editor who work the account full time.

The editor coordinates with the design, video, and web teams when that’s necessary.

I’m an electrician. I work for a small local contractor and do mostly commercial and light industrial work but some residential large scale work. It’s a paycheck, doesn’t really fulfill me intellectually or creatively but it pays well and I like my company. I write as much as I can in my spare time trying to get good at something I love and I’m going to start making videos and podcasts and put a media portfolio together. Hopefully I can get something with a video game site eventually as a producer or writer some day!

I’m a software engineer at a big single source provider in Belgium. We’re contracted out in teams to different companies and governments. I’ve done work for a pharmaceutical company, an alternative energy company, the privacy commission and my current gig (running for 4y+) is at immigration. It’s tough and challenging pretty much every day, but I love the technical nitty gritty of it all. I get a lot of say on how to approach issues and designs, so I’m very happy there.

I do IT for a public health non profit in DC. I get to fix peoples computers while still feeling like I’m actually helping the world in some way. Also, great thread title

Currently I’m a web designer at one of the dime-a-dozen digital advertising agencies here in Nashville. I just landed a new job as a UX Designer for a pretty huge retail company. I’ve only ever worked for ad agencies and the work is so soul sucking and tedious (I’m essentially a code monkey). I’m really excited to start my new position. I’m hoping it’ll be a fresh start in my career and I’ll start loving design again.

TBH, someday I would love to have the opportunity to be a UI designer for video games. #goals

If there are any other UX Designers here I’d love to here what your day-to-day is like!

I am an analyst. It’s fine, it pays the bills. I like my office and appreciate my co-workers. That’s my job.

Lately I’ve been doing a lot in local and district-wide politics in a deeply red part of the country. Since January I’ve been planning meetings, going to meetings, organizing protests, rallies, and educational events and trying to give the people who feel left out a place to have their voices heard. That is my work, even though I’m not paid for it (even though my Representative has called me, personally, a paid shill).

Today I organized a protest outside the reps office. In 12 hours notice we had 35 protesters show up to encourage our rep to vote ā€œNoā€ for AHCA. In the rain. On a Thursday. During lunch.

I’ve saved companies I’ve worked for a lot of money doing my job, and it makes me feel good to be a good employee. But standing alongside all those people in the name of a just cause was the most satisfying work I have ever done.
